FSX and DirectX 10

Postby Sooner266 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:11 pm

I have a GeForce 8500 GT and vista
this may be a stupid question but do i already have DirectX 10?
it doesn't seem to want to give it to me in the FSX SP2 install.
on the board's site it clams to have DirectX 10 capability.

help please :-?

ALL 8 series cards to my knowledge have DX10 but what OS are you on?

If you are on XP you won't have that capability because DX10 is Vista only.

Vista is currently the only one to have DX10 in the OS

yes

but since your card isn't the greatest don't bother with it ;) DX10 ROBS your frames really badly. plus the only way that I could get AA was through the in-game setting. Tried nHancer but that didn't work :(

Why do you want it deleted? If any other person had the same question they will look up this one. We don't delete legitimate questions.

Lets get this into perspective, on your system it robs FPS badly.  On mine the FPS is greater, but I can`t put up with the shimmering effect.  It will be different from one machine to the next.  One claim of what it does or does not do is not correct for everyones machines.  Just because you see something bad doesn`t mean everyone will.  Some swear by DX10, just like some swear by FSX and some swear at it!  ;D

i didn't tell my full specs...

3.6 GHz dual-core AMD 6400+ CPU 8-)
Gigabyte Motherboard with FSB of 2Ghz and many other bells and whistles
4Gb 800 MHz DDR2
then i already said Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT
250G SATA HD with Vista

do you still think DX10 robs FPS? (seriously asking, not sarcastically)

Vista includes DX10 by default along with dx9, which is the only way to get it, Vista SP1 includes DX10.1 by default along with dx10 and dx9

I get 5-7 FPS higher with DX10 than DX9.

I can't stand having some PAY add-on planes look white and I hate the flickering runway. This is the WORST implementation of DX10 I have seen.

I'll only turn it on if flying PMDG 747 at Heathrow, etc. The PMDG 747 does look stunning with DX10 and all the sliders up.

Everything else gets DX9.
