Do I need SDK?

a foolish question but i still need illumination
I am not a addon designer.According to SDK instruction, SDk is for developer and designer. But after I installed some payware addons, there will always be few or many problems as which I didn't hear the same report by other Vpilots. Do I need sdk to fit the designer need?
do I need to install sdksp1 and sdk to meet many addon need? thanks alot
