Hey again people,

I think I've resolved the issue.  Seriously, I think I have.

I've used the IWshRuntimeLibrary to create desktop shortcuts.  It should work properly.  Haven't tested it yet though, because I have yet to code the Vista 64 part.

The Vista 64 part is a registry thing.  For some reason, particular entries under Local_Machine aren't made.  These entries are used by FSWC to detect FSX.  If these are not detected, I'll have my program check in Current_User, because under Vista 64, those ones are still present (thank god).

I'll get back to you when this is all over.  Should be over by morning.  Yeah, it's 3:30AM here, so it's probably mid day for those in the US.  Evening if you're in western Europe.  So tomorrow for EU, tonight for US, in the morning here, lol.

Aren't timezones fun and confusing :P?

Again Ashton has gone well beyond the call of duty.

Its all looking very good and beta is very close.

I've uploaded some new screenshots http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/in ... &p=1823887. Lots  of presets in action including some of our more 'extreme' looks.

Also there are several shots featuring FSWC in Tim's latest REX post http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/in ... &p=1823771. The water looks absolutely jaw dropping. I can't wait to get my hands on REX and try out the FSWC integration!

You are gonna include a donation button for 6 month old crying machines?  Then maybe I could get some sleep so as to be able to fly a straight line!   ;)

Hey guys, thanks for all the support.

Like what Orion said (FlightSimWorld), all this testing seems to indicate that those running 64-bit Windows will have to run FSWC (and its installer, and probably uninstaller) as an administrator.

This is a bit of a headache for some, but my belief is that if you're running a 64-bit setup, you should be competent enough to be able to set that in the application's properties.

Now, Orion also had this other idea, one where the installer auomatically sets FSWC's compatibility to 'Run as an administrator'.  This looks like it can work, so I'm going to search for more code, to do just that, and perhaps the only things you'll have to 'Run as an admin' manually will be the installer.

I also have one more idea up my sleeve, that being building FSWC as a 64-bit application.  This would mean we'd have two downloads, one for 32-bit, the other for 64-bit, and that could work.

However, I doubt that'll solve the issues we've been having, so I suspect we'll have to stick with the admin thing.

Anyway, whilst I finish off, before I shutdown, unplug, replug, startup and build, I would just like to take this moment (or paragraph, as the case may be) to thank Orion.  He's been a great, no, huge help to me with FSWC's development process for the past two to three days.  Combining his quick actions, along with my slow connection with U.S. servers, he's helped test FSWC on a few setups, and he was the one who initially caught the error with Vista 64-bit, warning me to not send out the beta.  He is the one who helped me determine the registry limitations on Vista 64-bit when to do so myself would've taken too long, since I would have to switch computers.  He was the one who actually thought up the idea of running as an administrator.

To top it all off, he's only 12, that is, unless he had a birthday pass by without letting me know.

Tomorrow, or today, or whatever, amidst the timezone confusion, he's leaving for a trip to Seattle, home of Microsoft, Boeing, and that pointy building, the name of which I refuse to acknowledge for humourous effect, and will be there for a bit under a week.

So, before he leaves, or even if he reads this whilst on his trip, a very huge thanks goes out to you, Orion, for all the help you've offered and given.  Without him I probably wouldn't have resolved all those issues as quickly as I have.

Have a safe trip man.

Thanks Fabien.

Well, all the emails are sent, everyone should have FSWC stuck in their Inbox, probably filed under spam knowing today's automated junk checking systems, but it's out there non-the-less!

We are officially in beta people ;).
