Gauges not working and video recording

Gauges not working and video recording

Postby brettt777 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 11:46 pm

I have noticed many of the add-on aircraft have gauges that don't seem to work; at least on my sim they don't. I get alot of warnings for each gauge telling me it's a FS98 version and not supported. These are supposedly aircraft meant for FSX but the gauges apparently aren't. Why is this? Does anyone else have this problem? What can be done about it?
Also, I saw a control in the settings for recording start/stop. What kind of recording is this? How can I make it work and if I can make it work, how do I view it?

There are a lot of incompatibility issues with FSX, especially SP2. When I run into gauge incompatility issues, and the rest of the aircraft is salvageable, I simply delete the offending gauge files to get rid of the annoying error messages.

Personally, error messages are annoying. Seriosly, come on. Even when the gauges are ok, i sometimes have to sit there for a couple minutes clicking ok. I would have preferred it if FSX simply showed the compatible gauges, and if they are NOT compatible, simply don't show them, and/or create a report in the panel folder. There's no need to aknowledge every incompatible gauge several times. a simple message saying something along the lines of, "Please note that there are incompatible gauges in this panel. Please refer to the error report created in the aircraft's folder"

..........ok, rant over..... :P

The gauge thing is the result of someone slapping a thumbnail in a FS9 aircraft texture file and calling it FSX.  There are only two things to do about that.

Easy way, replace the "panel" folder with something that would at least be partly similar to the one for the aircraft you need the new guages for.

Hard way is to learn how to regauge a panel.

I replace the panel. :)

I haven't fiddled too much with the record and replay, but it's pretty self explanitory when you activate it.  You start the recorder, it asks something like a recording inteval, and for how long (I think) or you terminate it while flying.  Then you can save it and replay it.  It does not record a MPEG  or anything like it, it's solely an "in game" thing.  There are add-ons for recording external to the sim, however.

True. Whether or not it works in FSX/SP2 is a crapshoot when it comes to downloading FS9 aircraft that have been upgraded to FSX compatibility.

I guess my standards may be higher than others....

This may work for the 2D panel, but not the VC. If it's only a few gauges that are incompatible, or the aircraft model can still work, replacing a few gauges will render the panel functional ;)
