FSX SP2 and no DirectX 10 preview

Postby Orion66 » Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:30 pm

Sorry for bugging the forum with another question so soon.
I just installed SP2 for FSX.  I at first thought the install would install DX10 also.  I'm gathering that DX10 isn't actually out yet, thus SP2 is a preview of DX10.  However, I'm unable to get the DX10 preview button to show up in graphics tab.
My two SLI vid cards are EVGA 8600 GTS.  EVGA lists the card as fully DX10 supported.
Are my cards not actually supported, or did something go wrong with the SP2 install.
Again, thanks for any replies.

Well, first, the "Preview" is DX10. And it is not showing up because DX10 is only available in Vista :)

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks, though I don't think DX10 is enough reason to switch to Vista.
Thanks again.

IMO, DX10 is the only reason to "switch" to Vista.  ;)

2 points.

1) DX10 ain't worth it cause MOST add-ons don't work with DX10.

2) There aint much difference in DX10 compared to DX9.

DX9 is far better in FSX then DX10.

It is ofcourse a different ball game when you play stuff like COH and WIC. Those games were made for DX10

Some, not most!

2) There aint much difference in DX10 compared to DX9.

A massive difference on the right machine, FPS is a lot higher-everything is smoother

DX9 is far better in FSX then DX10.

It depends on the machine and the software/system, just because yours is crap does not necessarily follow that everyone elses is the same!  DX10 on the right machine/system with adequate drivers will be faster and smoother but still possibly suffer shimmering.  The drivers will inprove this as time goes on.  Maybe you need to look around a bit more and experience different setups before you make these wild and obviously ludicrous statements!

So was FSX with SP2 and a DX10 compatible card, it was made for the DX10 preview and that is what you get.  Comparing this to a game that runs full DX10 is like comparing chalk to cheese, we all know its going to be so different and really does not need to be said!
