Cannot see out from cockpit seat! HELP!

Postby lionsullivan » Thu May 29, 2008 8:21 pm

I have Vista w/32-bit operating system. I recently downloaded corsair_f4u7 which is a great corsair war bird. Everything is fantastic EXCEPT I cannot see out through the closed canopy when the canopy is closed. Everything is black! However, when I open the canopy...behold I can see all surroundings just fine. In other words...the canopy of the corsair is black! When flying regularly viewing the plane from the outside the canopy is clear on every view and I can see inside the canopy at the pilot, guages, etc! What is wrong??

The blacked out glass is a problem when using older FS9 aircraft models and textures in FSX. This problem can usually be remedied by opening up the glass texture, and making the Alpha Channel black

Basically, it involves downloading a program called DXTBmp from http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/pr ... dxtbmp.htm, finding and opening up the glass texture, using the program to export the alpha channel to your image editor, changing it to black, saving it, refreshing the alpha channell within the DXTBmp, saving it, and putting it back into the aircraft texture folder.

Also, always make a backup of the texture file before you edit it

You can also just find the texture used by the virtual cockpit glass and just remove it....or use a basic bmp with white or black background or even copy a vc texture from another plane....try experimenting...its a pain but you will get used to it.....
....the hard part is sometimes working out what the vc internal glass textures are, some are named but many are not and you will have to find out by the process of elimination.... try removing half of the textures and load the plane if the black vc has gone then you know the texture is in the half you just removed if not remove half of whats left again, remember to back up the textures!...do you understand the process here?
