I appreciate the apology. From my perspective, it feels like every time I want to make a positive contribution, because I am the MS/Aces/FS guy everyone takes out their favorite axe and grinds it on me, no matter how many times they have already done so. It gets tiring.
.

Just ignore them. Your contributions are always greatly appreciated by the real FS enthusiasts, it's great that you (and some other members of your team, on other forums if I'm not mistaken) actually take some time to talk with the community. I just wish you (and your team) had more time for that.

Now, there will always be some FSX-bashers, you can't do anything about that.

From my perspective, it feels like every time I want to make a positive contribution, because I am the MS/Aces/FS guy everyone takes out their favorite axe and grinds it on me, no matter how many times they have already done so. It gets tiring.

I am just explaining how it feels on the other end.

For instance, on another site, a poster threw in my face that he runs FS9 because FSX RTM perf was so bad on this thread about FSX benchies. When I asked to stay on topic, he insulted me. Then apologized to the forum, but not to me because "I should be able to take a little criticism". And told me I was off-topic. Well, FSX RTM wasnt my watch,SP1 was my first release. So how about them fairness rules? How about being on topic and discussing the post? How about being an adult, mentioning your pregnant dog once and moving on instead of acting like my 3.5 year old and repeating the same thing over and over every time you get a chance?

That's what is like on my side. It does make me wonder why I bother a lot of the time.

When you take that kind of day-in, day-out, relentless drubbing, year-in and year-out, no amount of well meaning encouragement not to let the, errr, illegitimate persons wear you down can overcome the Chinese water torture effect.

Nothing can undo or offset that. But be assured there are a great many others who appreciate your efforts in the past, gain from your communications, and look forward to what you will do in the future. I'm one, and I thank you.

I think you've hit upon a good interim solution to primarily avoid venues where the opportunity to take a cheap shot at you is freely available and not under your control. I saw what happened on your personal blog's comments the other day, and think closing them to comments is a good choice. People will still post comments elsewhere, and you can choose whether and how to respond in your own venue.

Your choices aren't limited solely to being silent or being attacked. If the power to reply is being abused, simply speak where reply is not possible. We'll miss the good part of the conversation, but we're as tired of the bad part as you are, just not as personally injured by it.

Now, I know that wasn't Nick's intent here, and I have accepted his apology. I am just explaining how it feels on the other end.

Phil;

Just so you know, There are many like me who are absolutely amazed at FSX.  I think you do a fantastic job supporting us.  I have to say I have a good system-my sig below-not the best, but good AND affordable.  I can run FSX with my addons well enough to appreciate what this sim can do.  And it'll only get better-we just have to be patient.  All I had to do was read, do my homework (thanks to Nick), AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS precisely.  I have nothing to complain about on how you or anyone else at ACES designed this software.  And software takes time to mature and people don't realize that.

Please don't give up or stop this.  I can't believe I'm here writing to one of the FSX designers-even if it's service packs!  And, like Nick, you make your way around to share information on your own time for anyone who wants to make the effort to LISTEN.

So I really want to thank you and I look forward to reading anything you want to post here, or anywhere.

Hi all,
I'm a long time lurker but felt I had to register to add my voice to the chorus of support for Phil.
I love FS and have since the early days. I've bought and worn out plenty of other games-most of which are now gathering dust on a shelf, but I always come back to this sim.
The fact that Phil, Nick and others, are happy to give up their time and share knowledge, experience and tips is something I'm extremely grateful for. I only run a lowly 2.6, 6800Gt with a gb of ram and I'd love to be able to fly a full "sliders to the right" maxed out approach into LHR in my C130-the reality is I can't-so I'll fly in Norway or Alaska where the frames are a bit easier. For me, the whole point is that this sim is fun and enjoyable. So what that my pc is a little slow-I get a hell of a kick out of FSX!
Phil-thanks for your input and the information you share. I don't always  understand fully the heavy tech stuff but thats ok :)
I enjoy reading your posts and as previous posters have stated, your presence is truly appreciated by those who like me, can fly out of simulated Alaskan airfields with stunning sunrises, beautiful scenery and suspend reality for an hour or so.
Now THAT'S true magic!!!

All the best

First and foremost we can't have Phil and Nick glaring at each other.

Like many I would have gone back to FS9 if it hadn't been for both of you.

If you look at the uploads to Avsim and Flightsim it is clear that FS9 still dominates, and this is of course not good news for Microsoft or FSX.  But having the careful advice of both Phil and Nick has certainly kept me in the game, and now I have it running reasonably well, though not yet to the level I want.

ACES cannot be blamed for not picking the multi-core CPU and the emergence of SLI.  Moore's Law means the what appears to be a vague prospect in one year is standard eighteen months later.

Now, Phil and Nick, I am saving my pennies to do my next upgrade at the end of this year - I want the newest and fastest CPU from Intel, and one or the other best video card.  DDR3 RAM is definite and it all means a new motherboard.  In truth a new computer.

I did contemplate putting one of the new 9xx GSx2 cards in next week, but now I am more than a little uncertain.  What are the marginal benefits or do I stick to the 8800GTX??

When the Gods fight we mortals cower in fear and trembling.

Nick that's very good to know indeed.  Maybe Phil can just ignore those forums where flaming seems to be the accepted practice.

Frankly there are some, run by good organisations, that I simply no longer use because I can't be bothered with the rudeness and hostility of the posts.

Now Nick, should I put an  NVGX2 (or the ATi equivalent) in with my Quad 6850 or just wait till the end of the year with patience and forebearance?

DO BOTH!  Remember, you are a flightsim addict, no amount of money spent on hardware upgrades is ever going to be enough!  Food? Housing? CLothing?  Who needs it!   ;D
