I need help!

Postby unknown » Thu May 22, 2008 2:58 pm

So,everyone wants to get as many FPS in FS,as possible. I'm not ex[ch1089]eption. I spent many hours reading recomendations and sticky topics here at SimV and trying to tweak my system and sim. My computer isn't super high end but still not bad and when I'm reading

I'm not an expert, but there are a couple things I would suggest:

Reduce your LOD radius, texture resolution, and cloud coverage density.

Have you ensured that FSX is running on all processor cores?

With UTX, here are NickN's suggestions

In UTX I would run it at the default settings, except for the following:

In the list on the RIGHT make the following changes

For best performance, NIGHT LIGHTING.. USA/CAN main roads OFF, intersection OFF

NOTE: To get a trade off for night lights with GEXn installed, ENABLE intersection lighting but leave the Main Road lighting OFF

In the list, last OTHER TERRAIN FEATURES turn off glaciers, railway yards, highway interchanges

Then change these items from the main menu under ADVANCED:

WIDTHS

UT OCEAN PIER 3
UT RAIL ENC DRY 14
UT RAIL ENC SEASONAL 14
UT RAIL ENC TROPICAL 14
UT RAIL ENC BRIDGE 14
UT RAIL ENC TRACKS 12
UT ROAD ENC DRY 28
UT ROAD ENC SEASONAL 28
UT ROAD ENC TROPICAL 28
UT ROAD ENC2 DRY 16
UT ROAD ENC2 SEASONAL 16

Click SAVE - DONE

FLATTENING

UT STREAM LINE DRY -2
UT STREAM LINE WET -2

Click SAVE - DONE

Close the UTX Tool

never enable any of the RD4 minor urban residential roads.. they are overkill and usually make the sim look fake. I will usually leave the RD5 Minor Rural roads (different from minor urban residential) enabled for USA/CAN but disable the RD5 minor rural roads in UTX Europe

Unknown, the problem is your CPU. 2 Ghz is too slow, even if it's a dual core.

As for your settings:
- deactivate the airport vehicules
- deactivate the vehicules on the road
- deactivate the GA traffic
- set your MAX_BUILDING to 1000 or 1500
- try setting your autogen density a bit higher during your tests, "normal" density is quite sparse, especially with the lines in the FSX.cfg.

A CPU that combines those four elements:
- max number of cores
- max number of MHz
- accepted by your motherbord
- minimum budget.

I do not know the current prices unfortunately, but I know that I bought my Q6600 some months ago for 250 euros if I remember well.
The Q6600 is a quad core, but the cores are slow, only 2,4 GHz. However, this CPU is also well known to be easilly overclockable.

I will let the other members advise you on this. If you really have to spend money on hardware, do it wisely. Spending all your money on a single piece that will not  correspond to the rest of your hardware is not wise. When I upgraded my PC, I choosed carefully the right CPU, with the right motherboard, with the right memory, the right video card and the right budget.

I'm not sure. How could I check this?

While you're flying, go to the windowed mode (do not pause the game), and press CTRL+ALT+DEL. The task manager will appear, and one of the tabstrips will show you the cores usage.

Have you tried locking it at 24/25fps? I dont see why anyone needs 30-40-50fps?  Having them locked at unlimited your forcing your PC to do stuff it doesnt really need to in my opinion anyway.....Sorry for butting in BTW :)

A 356mb 8800GTS? There's 320, 640, and 512 mb versions of the 8800GTS. No 356. :)

Test all these at Seattle downtown, WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE FRAMERATE, whatevers smoothest.

Lock frame lock to 24, see if that helps, try 26, 28, 30 and 31, then unlimited. Set to whatever works best.

Mesh complexity: 80 - change to 100.

Lower mesh resolution a notch.

Filtering - trilinear.

Water effects: LOW 1.x - change low 2.0x.

Scenery Complexity: Very Dense - change to normal, or dense.

TURN DOWN YOUR AI!!!! Hell, turn it OFF untill it runs good, then try turning it back up.

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3500

Change autogen slider to dense,

When I turn off AI I don't see big FPS increase...

When I lock FPS at 26, 28, 30 and 31,I get only about 5 FPS !!! :'(

I have SP2

Everything else I'll try! Thanks!

Try them all.

Have you got Sp2 installed? have you done Nvidia profiles?

Well if you haven't done Nhancer do it:;....;:

Filtering: Anisotropic <---- has to be TRILINEAR
AA: unchecked <---keeep it unchecked.

The driver profiles will make the game look far better and will run better too.
