Acceleration??? Worth the Install?

Postby BuzzDatAzz » Sat Feb 23, 2008 1:17 am

If you are not using DX10 what is the benefit of SP2? Besides the F-18 which is hot, but i am just noticing a lot of problem for example the Captain Sim 767-300 (I think that is the right one!) you can't see out of the VC Windows etc.

I am not dowing SP2, i would just like for you guys to tell what else does it provide other than a new fighter plane and DX10 if you are enabling it. Because if this is that it has to offer i would rather uninstall it and have my payware planes work correctly!!!

Thanx in adv.!

Well, if you do not have FSX: Acceleration and you regularly play FSX online (such as my father and I try to do on a weekly basis while living half-way round the world from one another), you are going to need SP2 to make your non-FSX:A copy of FSX compatible with those who are using FSX:A.  Without it, FSX-SP1 and FSX:A/FSX-SP2 are completely unable to connect with each other..

Also, while there are some add-ons that may turn out to be incompatible with either SP2 or FSX:A, there are some add-ons that will require it.  Then it becomes a case of which add-on is more important to you.  As for incompatible add-ons, you may want to try e-mailing the developers to see if they have developed a patch to make their add-on SP2/FSX:A compatible.  With Microsoft's undeniable clout, they can move forward just about any software advance by sheer force of will, regardless of initial bugs and deficiencies (a prime example would be Vista; utter piece of tripe, but try and buy a new computer without pre-installed).

If you do not plan on playing online using FSX (or, only plan on playing with SP1, non-FSX:A users), and if your SP1-only compatible add-ons are important to you, then you can forestall uploading SP2.  Otherwise, I would recommend using it, and then making note of any issues and forwarding them to the appropriate developer or asking here for solutions and work-arounds.

Just my rather long-winded 2-yen; hope it helps.

Sounds like some confusion here too.....

SP2 is not Acceleration, it is a separate download or included in Acceleration.  Acceleration includes SP1 and SP2 plus the aircraft, missions.  It is an add on that includes SP1/SP2 only.   Other freeware stuff is fast becoming available that is Acceleration orientated ie the carriers in freeflight mode.  Their are aicarriers, aicarriers2 and my assorted GPS compatible Acceleration Carriers I just uploaded to Simviation, Flight Sim World, JustFlight and Avsim-all pending release.  These cover Plymouth, Lands End, Aegean and the Persian Gulf.  More stuff to follow.....

If you don`t feel the need for the Acceleration add on then you could download SP2 separately and for free, try it and uninstall if you don`t want it.

I thought Acceleration was essentially SP2 plus some enchancements, and that Acceleration and SP2 will co-exist compatibly forever?

Acceleration will include the update to SP2, but they are not the same thing.  As Reider mentioned, you can download SP2 separately and upgrade FSX to SP2 without Acceleration.

As I mentioned in my first reply, however, if you are using FSX without FSX:A, you will need SP2 to play online with the people who have FSX:A.

Good luck,

Acceleration is a bunch of enhancements such as aircraft, scenery, and missions. It ALSO has, requires, and automatically installs Service Pack 2. Acceleration is Payware.

Service Pack 2 is bug fixes and performance enhancements. Freeware.

You will need SP2 to play with players who run with Acceleration.

There is an update/Fix version 1.4 for the Captain Sim 757 which fixes that issue. there are updates/fixes starting to appear for Aircrafts which have these problems.

I recommend downloading the Flight1 Cockpit Rain fix which fixes another problem with SP2/Acceleration.

To answer your question yes acceleration is worth the install, the hornet and mustang are amazing, the missions are fun. sp2 is included in acceleration but if you just download sp2 you dont get the acceleration pkg.
