Yeah I understand how to install them but for some reason when I do install them into my folder that I have created titled Aircraft they still do not show up. I even added the correct path inside the FSX.CFG file. Even before I did all that I added them to the simobject/airplane file and had no luck there. the Aircraft I am trying to load is Kirt Olsen's F-16. I'm just having no luck. thanks for your time.

If it doesn't work in the default location it's not likely to be any better in one you created. The Kirk Olsen F-16 has always been a little tricky to install, even in FS9. I'm not sure it's fully compatible with FSX. I suggest you try installing a few other aircraft to the default location (FSX\SimObjects\airplanes) until you get the hang of it.

Hagar, Wing86,

Just new to this forum...I was surfing to find an answer on exactly the same issue 'wing86' is experiencing, but I do have the issue with other planes (F16 is working in my case ...)

I did not check yet the fsx.cfg file, but I wonder if I could remove (or rename it) as I think a new fsx.cfg is created once you start FSX. Is this correct ?

Yes rename your present fsx.cfg file, (like fsx.cfgbkup), then FSX will automatically regenerate a new one.

Some people have a different cfg file for different aircraft but with SP2 and better hardware that now seems unnecessary.

They might have slightly different numbering, but to reactivate a cfg file, it must be given the original name fsx.cfg, and the one being replaced given another name,  (or of course keeping  a correctly name cfg outside the roaming folder.

Too much work for me.  But every now and then for some strange reason it seems to refresh the game just to get it to regenerate the config. file.

As I stated in my previous reply, there is no need to edit fsx.cfg to install aircraft to FSX. If they don't work in the default SimObjects\airplanes directory then you installed them incorrectly.

PS. If you give me a couple of examples of aircraft you have problems with & tell me exactly where to download them I'll be happy to check them out for you.

hagar,

Thanks for your proposal.

Here the file (complete file with model , sounds, etc) :
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... ID=&Page=9

or you can use download id = 120026 on avsim.

On my WIN XP config (XP+FSX+SP1+SP2) I have no problem at all : plane shows up in de FSX menu and id flyable. Although the panel and sounds cfg are pointed to default directories.

On my WIN VISTA config (VISTA+FSX+SP1+SP2) I used exactly the same 'install procedure' (cfr unzipping in folder on desktop, copying folder to the correct simobject/airplaine folder), but the plane does not show up. I made sure thumbnail.jpg is there ..
As workaround I replaced the sound and panel folders with sound and panel folder I used from another B737-300 and with that change everything looks fine in FSX too.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO ADAPT SOUND and/or PANEL FOLDERS in VISTA TO MAKE IT WORK as in WINXP all IS FINE FROM THE FIRST TIME.

Interesting consideration ...FSX under XP and VISTA is working differently in my opinion ...

Thanks again to let me know your test results. have a nice time.

Hi Marc. My offer might have been a little ambitious as I have no knowledge of Vista. There are so many possible variables with FSX that I should learn to stay out of this forum as it's impossible to give specific advice. However, the basics don't change.

I've downloaded the file to check it out. The panel & sound are aliased to the FSX default B737_800.
I see no reason why it wouldn't appear on the menu using either XP or Vista. Aircraft will not display on the FSX selection menu without a functional panel. This can be a complete panel or aliased. If this one displays after replacing the Panel & Sound folders the only possible explanation I can think of is that your default B737_800 is either missing or has been modified in some way. For example; if the B737_800 folder has been renamed the alias won't find it..

Using Vista 32 bit here with FSX Deluxe.  I downloaded from the link, decompressed the file and pasted 'as is' to the FSX/SimObjects/Aircraft folder.  I then had a quick perusal at the aircraft.cfg/panel.cfg/sound.cfg and all appeared to be in perfect working order.  Apart from the lack of quotes "" around certain parts of the aircraft.cfg lines, which need to be done to stop mixups occurring between the different aircraft and descriptions...  see note below. Next the physical test, the aircraft loaded perfect the first time with a 2d cockpit, brilliant exterior texture and sound as it should be.

I cannot but agree with our Hagar that your Vista 737_800 is somewhat changed from the original, that is the only logical explanation.

As for Hagar, do a vanishing act from the FSX section and we will haunt you forever and a bit longer!  Often your words of wisdom hit the spot or at least jog the memories of the rest of us.  We get a few Pro FS2004 coming into the forums just to cause some bother at times.  If they all had your outlook on life and flightsims then many more would be as welcome as you are.  Information should be pooled and cross forum/thread/FS cooperation is always a good thing.  Stay or be damned foreverrrrrrrr!  ;D

Note:  When I first perused the aircraft.cfg it was noted that it followed the layout of a typical FS2004 aircraft, rather than the FSX layout-which is understandable.  In a single FS2004 aircraft within FSX it may not cause a problem.  But as more are added it can cause problems in the selection of aircraft, but is easily remedied here.....

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1208843724

The underlying problem is the FS2004 method of non quotes and the FSX usage of quotes.  In this instance it is not the problem with the users plane from this thread, but may be a problem of the future.

Excuse me anyone know why cant i change the aircraft cfg file?

If you mean you cant save it that happen to me too. I just dragged the aircraft cfg file to the desktop then I posted it in it and saved it then placed it back into the aircraft folder on simobjects.

Hope this helps :D

Hagar,

You are a genius ... :) ...my problem is solved !!!

Indeed, you were right. When the plane does not show-up in FSX and the installation is done correctly, than is the chance great that the issue is with the panel folder.

Weeks ago , I renamed the M$ B737_800 folder and the alias did not point to the correct folder ...

Thanks to all who provided comments & hints (I have learnt a lot with it) and especially to 'hagar'. ;)
