Odd problem after Vista SP1 install.

Today I installed SP1 for Vista. I started FSX and loaded a flight, and when it reached 100% it showed the cockpit, but it kept flashing between an unfinish cockpit and the 100% Loading Complete sign.
My specs:
Core2Duo @2.4GHz
2Gb of RAM
NVIDIA 8600GTS 512Mb
Could it be a graphics card driver issue?

Don't jump to conclusions here. Try a different plane. Restart your computer etc. If none works, roll back (or update) drivers.

I did all of that. At first I thought it was FTX, but I turned that off and it made no difference. I tried the default 172, but to no avail. I'll try one more restart. I check back.

 It's probably no help but I also installed Vista SP1 and FSX still works great.  That being said I'll agree with Wii; Check out other aircraft and some of your newer add-ons (if any).

Nope I found nothing. Is not FTX and GEX, nor the IRIS PC-9, or FSX SP2. I think its VISTA SP1, maybe something was corrupt?

This is a shot in the dark but it might be a dx issue. 8600 is DirectX 9 card and Vista OS is DirectX 10, but you would think backwards compatible even with higher resolutions. If you switch to 16 bit instead of 32 bit settings in the display will it work?  Reason I suggest is that I went from Nvidia 6800 (not 8600) to Nvidia 7900 and crashed my system. 1722 errors when I tried a reinstallation and a flashing crosshatch screen ... and my monitor is good to go for whatever.  Finally after a workaround patch from MS I reinstalled, re-Activated and now re-building what once was a working system. Neither card works in 32 bit for FSX .... all else seems fine, but a display crash on loading FSX.  Maybe that's the norm in Vista, but my older systems runs FSX fine in 32 bit. So maybe SP1 updated DirectX10.  I tried rolling back also .... but no dice. Even tried the latest Nvidia drivers .... and the old "13" ver drivers.  No dice. So as soon as I get another copy of XP I'm dumping Vista. Not that Vista probably won't get there ... it's just that I'll be dead by then.  ;D  And now they're pushing to get out the next OS.

Vista works perfectly well with DX9 and DX10 hardware.  The 8600 is part of the 8000 series and as such is actually a DX10 card, though it works in both DX9 and DX10.  The 7000 series is DX9 only but works perfectly well on Vista.

Just because you have problems on Vista does not mean everyone is having problems or that the software is no good.  I run it on two machines and have run it on at least one of them from the day it was released, no problems whatsoever.  But, I checked all my hardware and software was compatible first.  I admit it can be slow and troublesome but after slight modifications it works 100% on a daily basis and just gets on with it.  I went back to XP Pro for 24 hours and then straight back to Vista, definitely better FPS and everything for me here.

When Vista SP1 was installed on your computer it would have installed DirectX 10.1. I have a feeling this may be significant as if you old drivers for your card installed then they may be disagreeing with 10.1. I would suggest heading over to the nVidia website and downloading the latest drivers.

For Vista SP1 use driver revision 174.60 or above. Issues with Vsync and other problems are known with SP1

I downloaded and installed SP1 last night - or really the machine did as it was all automated by MS.

I'll try the new driver tonight, Nick, to see how it all goes.

It's only a little bleat, but why does every upgrade we get from MS change so much that we have to scrabble for all new drivers and settings.  And cope with a new set of MS induced problems!!   They're a bit like hospital infections, something you get even though you were healthy when you entered, but they remain hard and difficult to cure - sometimes for ever chronic.

All the time you spent messing around with Vista, fixes, patches, upgrades, changes, and now a SP update... how many times could you have bought XP, loaded the system, and not been bothered?



Vista SP1 broke Vsync support without the WMD driver being present with the correct flags.. the new betas are said to have that support

I loaded Vista SP1 the other night and didn't have to change drivers, I didn't have to change any settings or cope with any new MS induced problems.   FSX and every other progam I have installed on my Vista drive load and run exactly as they did before.  

Not sure why people rag on MS and their service packs and updates so much because every one I've ever installed for Vista or XP have improved things or at least kept things the same as before.   I sometimes wonder if some problems people run into are self induced, meaning they've messed with settings they had no business messing with so when they install a service pack or update, the OS is not set the way the update thinks it will be and it just makes things worse.  Not saying that's it, but it does make me wonder when some people have trouble with certain updates\SP's and others have none.

+1  You said it just as it is.  So many mess with so called registry cleaners, part installed or wrongly installed aircraft, deleted rather than uninstalled software and then blame the OS for being bad!  I`ve installed Vista about 4 times now and had no problems, both 32 bit and 64 bit.  One is an OEM Vista 64 bit, one is a free version Vista 32 bit upgrade and one is Vista 32 bit on my laptop.  The fourth one was a reinstall after trying XP Pro once more and realising I had more benefits in Vista, only went back for 24 hours.  They called XP 64 when it came out and I had no problem with that either, except for being short of some much needed drivers at the time.
