VOR and ILS - I just can't do it!

Postby drummer_tom » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:02 pm

I'm absolutely hopeless at VOR and ILS and don't have a clue what I'm doing. I try the missions but fail miserably.

Anybody here fancy showing a newbie some of the ropes?

Thanks a lot guys

There's a whole section here for that type of question.  That's why we're here:

As you read throught those threads.. feel free to ask questions. Each person absorbs this stuff their own way.. so sometimes it takes THEIR questions to make it click..

On this subject. Does anyone know if you can get a bearing off a VOR in the in game map. The only thing I can think of is to print the map and then use a compass.

Tune in the VOR and dial the OBS to an on-course indication.  Unless you mean for flight planning.  If so, you can use sectionals to get the bearing between VORs along Victor airways, or you can use the AFD to find the navigation information from a navaid to an airport for any airport. ;)

Oh, how I wish FSX came with sectionals in the game for flight planning.  Sigh.

Or if you fly in the US, you can download full sectional and terminal charts for the whole US....
