Never had a problem before but...

I have never had a problem with FSX up until just lately. It seems I can't get longer than a 5minute flight in without the screen freezing up. I can't even get to the runway before it freezes up.

When's the last time you cleaned the GPU heatsink/fan?

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I would not think that changing monitor size would not cause the issue you are having unless you do not have a plug and play monitor, which I highly doubt. But for the latest nvida drivers just go to there web site http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

REMEMBER you have to uninstall the old driver first before updating.
the proper way is to download the update uninstall old driver reboot then install new driver and reboot again. I would strongly suggest that you make a system restore point before you do anything it makes it easier to go back. 8-)

There *could* be a reason though: a bigger monitor might force him to play with a higher resolution, meaning (MUCH) more effort for the card, thus more heat, thus more instability ;)

try another driver
The 6600 is an older card too so you may be having some issues with the current driver and the resolution you are trying to run

Ok thanks again. Now though, FSX automatically shrinks and goes to the desktop, where it says in a little error message "Failed to read from file" and then I can only click OK, FSX then closes. :-/

Anything I can do?
