The MSFS COMMANDMENTS

Thou Shalt purchase the correct parts to do the job

Thou Shalt set up thy computer hardware correctly

Thou Shalt set up Windows correctly

Thou Shalt not use bad security software

Thou Shalt not tweak with things they find on the internet without knowing what they do.

Thou Shalt set up MSFS correctly based on thy hardware

Thou Shalt set the frame lock based on how smooth MSFS runs, not by the numbers

Thou Shalt NOT LOOK AT THE FRAME COUNTER or thy eyes will burn in everlasting torment

OK NickN,

You are not going to believe what I am going to say....

I applied your settings but could not do some of the modifications to the cfg file because there was no

HideInfoText=1 <---- gets rid of the mag, brakes and other info on the screen (optional)
DisablePreload=1

But when I loaded up the sim I noticed that my FPS (set at unlimited) were in the 50s range !!

Hello NickN,

thank you so much for posting those pictures.  How can I get similar results ?
Are those from add-ons ?

I need your help to upgrade my machine.

Here is what I have today:
AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.66 mghz
2 G RAM
BFG nVidia 8800 GTS 512mRAM
Vista Home Edition Premium

When I use those settings:
http://www.highflightsimulations.com/recommended.html

I get 15 fps at 25000 ft and 8-10 when landing in Toronto or O'Hare.

How can I get a constant 25-30 fps with similar graphics than yours ?

I am thinking or upgrading my CPU to the following:

1)INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8500 3.16G/1333/6M/S775 and,
2)INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6850 3.00G/1333/4M/S775 and,
3)INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6850 3.00G/1333/4M/S775

Any advice ?

Of course, I would need to change my MB.

Thanks in advance,
fvjuke

4. I assume you already did but completely shut down the Indexing Service

Nick, you mentioned shutting down indexing service in Vista, should the same be done in XP Pro SP2? And if so, how is it done?

Each service I list below has the exact same procedure to shutting it down CORRECTLY. All you have to do is the following to each service on the list:

1. Double click the service.

LOL  ;D

Been here for quite a while now and that little step (indexing service on the hard drive) has slipped my mind every single time!

I'm trying to get some smoothness into the sim now as I have some time, finally. Hopefully it all turns out well this time (I've been at it for like a year now lol)
