Plymouth Carrier

Postby j76ny » Fri Mar 07, 2008 3:43 am

I've installed the Plymouth Carrier here on SimV. It shows up good on GPS, map and I can even see myself from tower view but there isn't a carrier there. I've flown up and down the coast searching for it but....nothing.

Any tips?

Much depends on your circumstances and settings.  Heres a run down of what could effect the situation....

Go to the Settings -Display section in FSX, you`ll see a series of tabs.

Graphics Tab

tick in advanced animations

Scenery Tab

Scenery complexity and Autogen density turned up (mine on very dense)
Special effects detail up (mine on high)

Traffic Tab

ships and ferries percentages up (mine on 100% when showing scenery to advantage, normally turn it down a bit)

Other Problems:

You need the standard version for non Acceleration users and the Acceleration version for Acceleration users.

If using something like JustFlight traffic and utilizing an FS9 type Traffic.bgl then ships and ferries do not show up.  You need to convert the traffic.bgl to a pure FSX version, making sure you take a backup first.  A program to do this is available on the net, bglfpfsxconvert.  Basically the existing FS9 type .bgl file works in FSX but stops ships and ferries appearing.  Changing the .bgl to a pure FSX format changes that.  I find its best to keep a copy of the FS9 format to add and adjust traffic, then change to FSX style afterward, as this is not so easy to adjust in its own format.

SPECIAL NOTE:

I will always always try to help but I need to state the following.  My files do not include the carrier in any shape or form, they merely call the carrier that exists in FSX.  When this carrier does not appear, the file I produce is not in question, since it merely uses a GUID supplied by FSX to make the ship appear and in the Acceleration version a ship route which also makes it appear.  Non appearance can only be attributed to the users version of FSX not being set up as above for the full inclusion of boats and ferries.  Before doing these files I found mine was one that failed too, it used the JustFlight version of traffic and had a FS9 type Traffic.bgl This has now been changed by the good folks at JF with a service pack.  I still do it the old way with conversion so I can make changes to the traffic files myself.  If you have FSX with no traffic add ons then you will be using the FSX version of the traffic.bgl  In any other situation you need to make some enquiries and see if its an FS9 version or backup and then produce a pure FSX version to test with.  I was absolutely amazed at the increased scenery I saw after changing to the FSX style of traffic.bgl  I was missing lots of eye candy prior to this.  I saw boat docks but never saw car ferries for example.

Path to my Traffic.bgl

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\World\Scenery
