Darn you Nick.  I have settled down with the 169.25 certified driver with my GTX, but your advice is not to be ignored.

I presume I should uninstall the present driver, run the driver sweeper, then install the beta.

Can you specify the improvements you are finding, or is it just generally better visuals and/or performance.

you guys are lucky being that you can upgrade your drivers. i cant i'm stuck at 101.1 or something like that. i have a 8600M GT on my MacBook Pro with (and this is what gets me) 256MB of dedicated video ram in OS X 10.5 but on windows it says i have 512MB of ram.

overall i dont have any complaints at the moment and it plays FSX just fine on meduim high settings after tweaking the heck out of the CFG.

would the drivers still work on my system or would it just be safer to stay with the drivers that Apple provided on the CD?

I just uninstalled my previous drivers (using NickN's prceedure) and installed these drivers to try them for vista 64.  At least I think I installed them.  After I downloaded and unzipped folder, I clicked on the "setup" file.  The nvidia installer went through the process and said I must reboot, but it never asked where (folder) I would like the drivers installed.  I rebooted and searched for nvidia files using the search function in my start menu, but found nothing.

Does anyone know where the installer installs the drivers?  Previous drivers installed in C:/NVIDIA/winvista64/169.25, but these beta 174.12 drivers did not instal here.

Yesterday I just about reinstalled my drivers five times.  ::) I guess I'll have to wait to more peoples opinions on these drivers. :)

I use a 3780 X2 for Vista which puts nvidia to shame

IMHO, the whole ATi product line puts ATi to shame.  ;D

Let me upgrade my statement.

The whole Ati range and whole Nvidia range sucks except 1 or 2 cards. :)

I am going to wait this out for further upgrades. I might go and get these drivers if I see them fit. ;)

Yes, it is ... but i am not telling anyone to run out and buy anything

Its still in a driver dev phase like all cards are when they are first released but the issues which nv display after -over- a year in their 8000 series were not there. None the less the hardware market is in a 'shift' phase right now so I would still wait a bit before making decisions like that.

Cant help you with that.. dont use Apple here. They are designed more for professional graphics and media production than for games
