When rolling the mouse cursor over a button.....

or switch in FS9, the name of the button or switch would be displayed in a little window.  For whatever reason, this function doesn't seem to be working in FSX.

Was this function done away with, or is my installation messed up?

It's still there. Not sure why it's not working for you though...you are using a default panel correct?

From the main screen click: Settings>Customize>Aircraft tab>put a tic in 'Show cockpit tooltips'.

Or, in a flight, click on: (Alt-menu) Options>Settings>Display>Aircraft tab>put a tic in 'Show cockpit tooltips'.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I didn't realize the tooltips had to be turned on for that function to work.

Look through all the options for display, aircraft, etc. and make sure that you have not turned that feature off, it does work in FSX.
