Dreaded "White-Out"  ????

Postby steve s » Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:36 pm

What causes this white-out condidtion where the monitor just flashes white for about a second or two then comes back.....usually!!  I have an Nvidia 8600GT GDRR3, and 512meg chip.  4400+ AMD, and 2 gig of good fast RAM, HP w/2007 monitor.  Any ideas on this problem.   Oh BTW.....I did just recently install the newest Beta Driver 6.14.11.6928. (forgot the more common title).....maybe it's the 169.28?

Maybe I should go back to the 169.21 ??  I did not use FSX for very long with that 169.21 driver, but did not notice the white outs then.

Any ideas are appeciated.

I believe I have read here  that it will happen if you have  'Cockpit Tool Tips'  enabled, in the settings. Doesn't seem to happen on every one of my planes tho.

One of the reasons a driver has the name BETA attached to it is that all of the bugs might not be ironed out. You might have to roll back to your old driver. That is why I do not use BETA versions 8-)

I think I will roll back the driver and see what happens this time.  I certainly did not see any great improvements with the beta one that's for sure!!

I actually was flying the "KingAir" on a newly developed Flight Plan.  It seems like about every time I used the shift2 for the radio stack I would get this white out.  I'll change the drivers and fly the same flight and see what happens.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but my white-outs were caused by my switching on Bloom for some non-FSX aircraft.

Hate to reheat it but,  I am still getting the "white-outs"!!   Anyone have other ideas.  I did roll back the driver, and turned off the bloom.  It don't do it as bad, but it is still there many times.  Seems it's connect to the mouse movements maybe???

I have the same Video card. I do not use DX10 Preview and the nVidia driver is 169.28  and with Acceleration pack and No tool tips. Only thing is sometimes I can see small area is flashing little. After switch off the DX10 preview the Graphics are great and F-18 flights are also very good.

How do I know for sure I got the "tool tips" turned off?   What is the path to those?  Is it in "settings" i presume?

Well....that seemed to get rid of the white outs......but man at my skill level I can hardly do without the "tool tips"!  I think I'll suffer with the white-outs for a bit till I get more familiar.
