Acceleration F-18 Brakes

Postby Davoos15 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:35 pm

When I am coming in for a regular landing on a runway in the F-18 from acceleration and brake, my fighter vears of to one side. Is there a reason for this? Can it be fixed, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Are you using just a joystick ?  If so (and if it has a twisting rudder), if there's the slightest of twist (or the stick is out of calibration), differential brakes will be applied when you hit the brakes.. and that will cause this problem.

I am using a joystick. Maybe I should do a calibration test? But it only happens with the F-18; no other aircraft have this problem. That's what I don't understand...

The F-18 brakes are very strong and very sensitive. When you press the button, the maximum braking force is applied, the nose dives and it gets very difficult to control thisdestabilized plane.

The solution is to make several button clicks instead of one long click, in order to be more gentle with the brake power. Or you can also try to assign the brakes to an axis, if I'm not mistaken.

The best solution is rudder pedals.. so you can apply the amount of braking needed.. and apply it differentially, in unison with the nose-wheel steering.  :)
