Vista notepad not saving altered .CFG files

Postby omar777 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 3:33 pm

Hi all!
I've been trying to install new paints for my default B737. This involves adding lines to the planes .CFG file and saving. But when trying to do so I get this message:

"Cannot create the C:\Program files\......B737_800\aircraft.cfg file
Make sure that the path and file name are correct."

Then I click on the "ok" button and it opens up a windows explorer page showing the other tuxture files for the plane.
So, my question is, how can I continue to save?

Find your FSX folder in program files (Program Files, Microsoft Games). Right click on the Flight Simulator X folder and go onto security. Click on 'Edit Permissions' and click on Users and give it 'full control'. Let me know if that works.  :)

If all else fails, save it to the desktop, place the current one in a safe place and then cut/paste the desktop version to the folder where its needed.

:D  Just a thought, did you turn the User Account Control off?  It's in the control panel\user accounts.

Thanks Jake! that did the trick. I knew it was something related to security. i thought it was only on a file level and not a folder level security.
Reiger- That was one of the things i did but failed to work. Thanks for your input though!
Uncleyuk- Thanks! darn that UAC, forgot about its sneakiness, should've thought about that.
Problem fixed! Thanks guys! :D

Sorry mate, if its done correctly it cannot fail to work.  The big secret is select the 'Save as type' to All Files, then save it to the desktop.  Replace the original (after backing it up) with this version.  Usually it will only refuse you once.  After this it seems to allow it afterward.

As you have it working no sweat, but this has worked for everyone else who has tried it.  Trying to save a .cfg file as a text file is always going to present problems.  Selecting save type to All files keeps it in its original format.  Just glad you didn`t go with the option of turning off UAC.
