Please Help!

Postby ETaylor » Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:38 pm

Hello.

I've been having several problems with FSX lately. The most frequent is the game will quit out and cause the computer to restart itself. It happens usually after I change aircraft, and it has also happened when I change from VC to outside view.
My computer is a homebuilt, and it has the latest technology, graphics card, etc. So it should handle FSX well.
Another problem is the game is very jerky at times. Sometimes it happens when I am flying some larger file planes, like the Tornado, but other times it happens with simple stock prop planes. My graphics settings in the game are rather high, I want to get the most out of this sim, but they are not maxxed out.
Also, today I executed a missed approach in the stock A321. I performed a normal go-around procedure, and the right after I throttled up, the dreaded "Aircraft Overstressed" message came up.
I'll have the specs on my machine in a bit, I just have to find them. Thanks!

Here is an awesome program that finds out your specs: http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php ;)

About your problem: I think that your CPU is overheating and because of that the PC automatically restarts..When you will install the program above tell me what is your CPU temerature(you could also check the temperature while running FSX ;)).

here come the specs-

2 gb ram
e6400 core 2 duo
320 mb pci express card
250gb hard drive
550 watt power supply.

I talked with the buy who built the machine, and he said it is still up-to-date and should run FSX no problem.

And you said this program you linked to will tell your CPU's temperature? How does that work? And what is a good temp, considering my specs?
The CPU itself is in a large cubboard with an elaborate ventilating system. The shelves in the cupboard have many holes in them for ventilation, and an intake fan brings cool air from the basement up from between the walls. The air is then circulated through the cupboard, and vented out at the top via an exhaust fan. I have felt the temp of the machine during running, and it seems to be OK.

But I thank you for your insight, this may well be the problem.

Another problem I've been having- in the VC view, and sometimes the spot outside view, the screen will flash white at teh bottom half of the display. The flashes are frequent, and roughly follow vairous texture lines. Yesterday this flashing went away after I clicked some buttons in the VC. It seems not to like when I change views- this is what usually starts some of my problems, including the flashing, and the restarting.

Nice PC project you have there,in a cupboard! To see the CPU temerature click on the left side the Voltage, Temperature and Fans icon(its the very last one in the Hardware tab). The normal temperature for you should be around 50 Celcius deegrees(it depends.. i.e. my Pentium 4 3.4 is at 70 Celcius deegrees which is rather normal for Prescott CPUs)...I also think that you can run FSX well. As for the VC problem it could be your settings that are set too high..I am not really sure. Ask the other guys here.

Speedfan will run in the task tray and tell you the temps and the fan speeds.  Their are others but thats the one I`ve used in the past.  MBM isn`t supported any more and theirs another main one that escapes me at the moment.

EDIT:  Everest or something the other one

First off, thanks for all the help!

I do have the 8800 GTS. Yesterday, I called the manufacturer back, and he had me install an update for the card. This helped. I can now change views much easier, and more quickly.

He also had me change the setting to restart after an error. That's what was happening before, there would be some error and the machine would restart. It seems to be working better now.

I'm also getting the Acceleration Pack, which I have heard has an update for the sim on it. I'll try experimenting with the settings in the game as well.

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it.

Acceleration includes SP2, along with three new aircraft, and a bunch of missions. The Service Pack 2 is also available for download if you don't want to buy it, or wait to buy it

Got the Acceleration Pack.
Now yesterday when I ran it, I was in the F-18, and I went to go to a non-full screen mode (Alt+enter), and it froze. The mouse still moved, but nothing worked when I clicked on it. I ended up doing a Cntrl+alt+del, and that worked. I got the error message, and there was an option to restart FSX. I did, and it then worked fine.

Has anyone else had peoblems like this? My problems seem to always happen when I change views (cockpit to outside, cockpit to window non-full screen, etc.)
