It sucks..

Postby MCAntonio aka AN21 » Fri Dec 28, 2007 5:25 pm

It sucks because I bought 2 Gigs of RAM(FS2004 runs perfectly even with 1.5GB :D) and FSX Standard edition with the Acceleration pack and I get about 10 FPS max..Even when I have medium settings. Is it such a problem that I have a Radeon X600 card?

That RAM is DDR PC3200? You may have 2.5GB of it, but at 400mhz it won't give you what DDR2 PC6400 or more does.

I believe Pentium 4's are only single core, whereas the Pentium D's are the duals, although they have very low FSB speeds and much less cache than today's Core 2 Duos.

The graphics card is pretty old, so it definately won't perform up to FSX standards.

Did you do a clean install of FSX before you installed Acceleration? It helps to do that. Follow this: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1197380641

and see if that makes any difference. Also, make sure you use Nick's XP setup for better performance. That will definately help. Read the whole thing.

Yes it is a DDR PC3200..If I want to have DDR2 I have to change to the motherboard(which means more $). It has to be 400 MHz or it wont "collaborate" with the proccesor, right? Can you recomend a good graphics card(not a VERY expensive one ;))
I have already read Nick's XP setup(I have copied them too).

lol

do you know your motherboard model?  if not, use this

http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

What it does is it detects what hardware you have, and just see what you have as your motherboard and tell me the model.

The short answer is basically yes, that card will not run FSX well at all. Add to that Pc3200 RAM (The 400Mhz stuff you have), and a single core processor (Pentium 4), and you might as well not run FSX. I know it sounds harsh, but that is the truth.

If you want to achieve decent framerates in FSX, you're going to have to upgrade your system, completely (e.g. dual core processor, PC6400 RAM, new graphics card).

On your system I would stick to FS2004. You should be able to run it almost or completely "maxed out", and it will look nice, trust me ;) (FS9>FSX ;))

Yes I agree. That system simply won't stand a chance with FSX. FS9 can look VERY good if you put time into it and the right freeware/payware.

No worries, my FS9 looks sooo much better than FSX(PicNic grass textures, New stars data, water&sky&sun textures, runway&taxiways textures......). And it runs very smoother(like 35 fps minimum). The only disturbing thing is that I spent 88 euros for FSX :-/(with that money I could buy many add-ons for FS9). Anyway thanks for the help guys :)

I don't know why you'all stated that a 3.4 Ghz plus 2 gigs of PC3200 won't run FSX well, I am running a 2.8 GHz with 2 gigs of PC3200 and the framerates stay in the 20s. This is with an NVidia 6600 with 256 megs ram. Tune your system and use an automatic defragmenter and you shouldn't have that much of an issue with the game. This version of FS appears to like alot of video ram instead of system ram. I would just invest in a better card. Your system is fine.
