Problems with hosting a session in Gamespy

Postby briboy2007 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 8:10 am

Hi All,

I have asked this question before and never got a reply that was of any help so I am asking again.

My problem is that when I host a session on Gamespy as soon as someone joins my session my game freezes until the person that joined leaves. As soon as they leave my session continues. I did not have this problem when I first loaded FSX on my PC. Sometimes quite out of the blue I have managed to host a session without this freeze-up occurring but this is very rare for me.

I have tried all sorts of things to try and cure this problem. I have disabled my virus & fire wall protection, and

OK, having gone through your previous posts to find a clue to the problem, this is the overall feeling I get.  When you initially got the broadband connection, the modem that was supplied may have had a given throughput, a rate of data exchange.  Now, as time has gone by, the rate of data exchange (especially in the Uk, as an example) has moved on a pace.  So, a lot of ISP`s have offered Routers instead of these modems to make the connection.  Freeserve, before they became Orange, was one of them.  The data throughput on these devices was higher than the original equipment and allowed more connections.  With the drop in hardware prices many people, like myself, bought their own routers at very very cheap rates.  Now, this may not be the problem in this case but does sound very plausible.  The data exchange rate is low, when you share it drops even more (especially hosting a session) and freezes.  Either borrow a router or take the chance and buy one.  If you do this latter step then make sure you do your homework first and find one thats compatible with your ISP and system.

Thanks Reider, that does sound very plausible, I will explore using a router as you suggest.

Many thanks for your advice.

If you have a friendly ISP just give them a call and tell them the problem. They usually, if friendly and professional, will be happy to help.
