Problem with SP2 ?

Postby garymbuska » Mon Dec 17, 2007 3:56 pm

I downloaded and installed the service pack 2 the other day and now I keep getting weird scenery glitches. Looks like a huge wall and has both water and cloud textures in it. I was over the Atlantic Ocean at the time on a flight from Charles De Gaulle to KJFK at FL315. I had never seen this before the update was installed. I was able to make it go away for a while by switching views by pressing the S key. But it would not stay gone long. I thought I would ask if any one else is seeing the same thing before I un instaled the service pack. I do not have Acceleration. 8-)

Have you added any scenery in the area before installing SP2?

No all I did was to install the service pack and then ran FSX. I did notice that it added some scenery, I just figured that was part of the patch.?
This problem showed up along the entire route of the flight which means that there was more than one area of sceney involved. It even showed up on final approach to JFK I was only 50 feet or so out when all of a sudden a huge wall showed up.

For information, when I was testing the SP2 yesterday, everything was fine at first but after a while some strange artifacts appeared and some black and white peaks appeared in the middle on the surrounding scenery... in fact, it was my hardware that was hoverheating. The computer crashed some seconds after. I opened it and recognized that my video card was ULTRA hot. I need to clean the fan, it's to dirty to be efficient anymore.

I can assure you that my fan is working fine as I just cleaned it a few days ago. But I will look at it to be certain every thing is ok.

I have some strange artefacts while flying under SP2. If I pan around too much I get these peaks jumping up with mangled textures, but they disappear after a while. I believe it is just a few driver issues.

OK guys, before you go pulling your hair out... the black flashes (spikes) when the sim is first booted and you pan around the aircraft is a Nvidia driver issue from what I was told. I see it too but it only happens when the flight is first booted and the initial pan around the aircraft is performed. It does not happen past that.

As for the original topic, that sounds like a either a driver/hardware, file corruption or improper scenery or terrain.cfg entry. If you use any UTX product or other 3rd party product which has ties to the scenery and terrain.cfg, make SURE to run the 3rd party repair tool after SP2 in order to re-write the files correctly after the SP2 (or acceleration) update. UTX need only be started and it will automatically fix the configs. Some add-ons have a defined "repair' that must be run.

Alejandro, this is defintely what I need to do.
In my computer, the situation is indeed even worse !  :D :
- the fan of the cooler for the CPU is broken, so now it is unbalanced, and generates a lot of vibrations while turning. I have to set it to minimum speed
- right under the CPU, on the AGP slot, lies my 6800 GT, upside-down, and her heatsink is really hot. I need to clean her fan quickly because the hot air she generates directly heads up to the CPU...
- one of the fans of the power supply was making to much noise, so I blocked it... it's quiet now :P

My computer is getting too old. It's not a good idea to spend any money to "save" it, so I'm thinking about finay buying some piece of actual hardware... along with the Acceleration pack  8-) ... but after Xmas, because I'll be short on money :P

I think what I am seeing is the same thing I just installed the latest driver for my video card but have not tried FSX yet I will let everyone know the results. One thing for sure is if I can not figure it out I will uninstall SP2.
I am unsure what SP2 is supposed to do anyway?
