Yes, with the changes SP2 incorporates you all need to be careful of editing the FSX.cfg file. Many of the tweaks used in the past, like what happend with SP1, are no longer helping the sim and in many respects cause problems. The only tweaks that should be looked at are ones that are designed for dual/quad core, the light scale for the airports, the tweak which removes the sims ability to preload the default flight and only if the system is very slow, perhaps work with the added autogen lines, but otherwise Aces did a bang-up job of getting FSX to run without having to tweak the config as of SP2

And yes, a clean install getting rid of the old install and allowing FSX to update as Aces intended with SP2/Accell is the best way to go.

Install RTM, fire up the sim and let it complete the install and boot the default flight.

Close the sim

If you have the Deluxe version and want the SDK installed, install it off the DVD now

reboot the computer

Install Acceleration which will install SP1 and SP2 automatically. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight.

Close the sim

If you want the Acceleration SDK install it from the disk

Reboot the computer

Make sure you have the latest DirectX installed http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

and make sure you have the C++ library update installed http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en (many add-ons install this update now automatically. I belive Acceleraton does too)

Start the sim, set up the sliders/checkboxes as you had them. Close the sim

Install your addons one at a time, reboot in between and make sure you have the updates for them. UT requires special Acceleration updated depending on which version you have. You will find a link to it in the payware forum I posted.

UT also has an issues with the terrain config for ocean and lake waves. It requires manually editing it. If you need that process I will send it when I get time.

DO NOT MIGRATE the FSX.cfg file you have. Use it to copy/paste edits but do not overwrite the new file.

The best tweaks are now all in Windows setup and the correct use of O&O Defrag

here is a list of the ONLY areas one may wish to work with

[Display]
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70 <----- I would be cautious with this after SP2. Try 50 to 90

keep in mind FSX is not FS9. Although the max Texture Bandwidth Multiplier can go to 400 like FS9, to do so is suicide in FSX. I would say most should be somewhere around 40-90 MAX

UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 <----- You will probably have to frame limit at 24, I don't beccuase my system is very fast and unlimited is much smoother. Try both.

WideViewAspect=True (FALSE if you do not have a wide screen monitor)

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2

HU ?

I   L O V E  FSX and Acceleration.  I just pointed out some potential issues, from my experiences, as people ask questions.

One of the computers at my flying club has FS9 on it. I donated my last "gaming" rig with the FS9 installation. I'm the club's computer "expert".. so I'm in there all the time maintaining their network; upgrading/repairing older computers... so I do get to run it now and then... and let me tell ya... there's no comparison.

On top of that, I'm still working on some new aircraft. Obviously, like my Cardinal.. they'll be FSX only. FS9 is as far back in my distant past, as FS2002 ...

Haha, sorry my mistake! I like the analogy with the car and race track :P Also I can't wait for that Cardinal, I'm sure it will be a pleasure to fly in FSX!

If it doesn't work out of the box without weeks of tweaking to get the best from it, and the SP fixes fix some stuff and 'break' others, and then the company shrugs and head off to work on a different product, well, I can see why some people are unhappy. Nothing wrong with it. Some like tweaking and are good at it, and enjoy challenges, others expect to pay their money and get a near-perfectly optimised product.

Krigl, I once shared your views but from my experience so far, I don't believe that is the case. When I heard of DX10, FSX, Vista I went and bought myself a laptop, nothing flash and only a DX9 card. It could be classed as current but not high end, didn't cost that much either. As long as the machine is current, you don't need anything high end to run with reasonable performance.

And...  Smiley  ...  We're going into the second year of FSX... We've gotten two SPs that yield a truly amazing product. I's not a shrug-ful dis-regard to be moving on to FSXI.  There's not ever going to be a SP for FSX that will have it running well on three year-old hardware.

I just hope that FSXI is a true, 64-bit app.. and that it will take full advantage of multi-core CPUs...

.... Which of course means another upgrade. The next-gen V-cards should be rolling out soon

FSX was a transition product, a lot of changes occurred during development and its first year of release. FSXI should be a complete, stable, full 64-bit supporting at least 16+ cores (FSX can handle up to 256, FSXI maybe 512 cores? 1024 cores?!?!?!) and also a full DX10 program, which will be coded with mature hardware and drivers.

ACES has given FSX much more support than any other FS. Since when have you know of two SPs and an expansion pack in one year? What about a dedicated blog which was actually updated regularly? Not to mention Phil Taylor posting in our forums.

Dave -  Welcome to the NEW dark side of FS!! I'm glad you're enjoying acceleration!!

Congratulations to all who have made Acceleration work fine for you.......
I apparently have the "guilty combination" Vista+Envidia GTS-----I installed Acceleration and everything went smooth, no errors, just a sweet install. Then I started FSX, got to the music and blew!!!!! stuck as lead in a duck-----after trying a few more times, complete disinstall of accelerator, re.install etc...same thing.
So its back in the shelf  for the spiders......
Question: I see many of you " Dis-Installed" FSX etc...etc..... I read in two or three forums that, there is a bug in FSX that when you dis-install it ----is is Hell and True Water---installing it again for some old .dlls never disinstalled or something or other (?).........so, since I have so much stuff already installed with FSX, I have been "Chicken" to dis-install the gentleman...........any suggestion to bring up my courage??? :-[
Thank you. :)

Hey Wingo.. my Cardinal can be found here at SimV, in the FSX Props section.. or just about any FS web-site.. or if you have last month's PcPilot magazine, it's on the cover CD. It's very FPS friendly  :)  (check out the photos of the real Cardinal on which it's based, in the documents folder)

I'm working on a Cessna 310, but am having to re-do the textures now that I've found out you can use 2048X2048 bitmaps.

Lets face it, I`ve done the Acceleration install on top of a present setup and as a clean install, both ways worked perfectly for me.  It doesn`t follow that this will work perfectly for others or not.  It can work both ways and depends on the state of that persons present setup, software, hardware, drivers, third party add ons.  It needs common sense, unfortunately this isn`t always around in abundance  ;)

all i can say is that i use all three in combination, i am very pleased with the performance.

all or most of the sliders on FSX are set to or near max, and i still turn out 17+ FPS... much more in less populated areas.

typically when i install a program that is the latest in the installment and i dont like it... i just go back to using the older version.

to anyone that doesnt like FSX... or acceleration, or vista... very politely that would be my recommendation, go back to what you enjoy.
