And one other thing

I have seen people compare MSFS and Microsoft issues to buying a car and having lemon laws protect the public from a bum design. That

You know the silly thing about people complaining about what MS put on the box for min specs?

Well, I will agree with one thing.  When my M$ Xbox, or Xbox 360 melts down within a month of purchase,  it's definitely  my fault for not buying the needed hardware.  Apparently I need a specially constructed walk in freezer to go with my quality M$ product, so that it won't overheat immediately every other time I use it.  All those crappy fans I have blowing on it are just not enough, so it's my fault, and I need to bend over to thank M$ for the opportunity of owning a couple of $400 paper weights. ROFLMBO.......

I've had my XBOX 360 since the day it came out and haven't had a problem with it.  The only problem I have is I do not have the Live Gold Membership and I'm stuck with lowly Silver.  STUPID M$!

;D

You just can't win.

Yes Nick, and you and others are right about previous versions.  But maybe I am re-writing history, but when FS9 came out I only had to make one hardware upgrade to make the program sing.  But I am looking at my third for this game already.  And yes there was an SP for FS9 but we are into the second for FSX already.

So maybe there is a difference that is a reasonable cause for the dissatisfaction from many users.  I have no sympathy for those with ancient systems, but there is a significant group with top of the line stuff that are still struggling.

If you take a commercial perspective, I notice that with the exception of UTX and PMDG the add-on industry is designing for both versions because of the customer decision to remain with FS9.

I am a bit of a perfectionist and I do want FSX to run really well.  It is little comfort to know that I might have to wait until the middle of next year to buy my fourth lot of hardware to get the stability I seek.

I am not a basher, FS sim has been my joy since I had to give up real world flying.  But you can't deny that the 'finish' to FSX was lacking, and that it has vastly outpaced retail hardware.

The Geforce 7600GT is widely known to be better than the 8600-not by much of a margin but its there, the 8600 just adds loose DX10 compatibility and without better drivers isn`t really that good with it either.  As Nick said, it isn`t anywhere near an 8800 so don`t expect too much, its been hyped up falsely by too many.  Its just a wannabee card.....  I easily run 2X low on mine and could go higher, my other settings are quite high too.

Incidentally Nick, I`ve retained the same settings after installing Acceleration, I loaded them from a saved profile and manually checked them.  But, as my PMDG 747 flew over the water I got the most brilliant reflection of it off the water!  I`ve done it several times since-the quality was superb and really crystal clear with a perfect shine to the water.  Its as if the settings are higher than they actually are.  Was something done in SP2 to make it this way, improving the quality without increasing the sliders???

Many thanks for that, thought either that was it or the tuning up had done it.  I don`t need to raise the FPS any more, even for a 3800 but I`ve dropped the water setting to see what happens with the quality, bearing in mind I was quite happy pre SP2.  I can see me putting it straight back though, I like the effect they`ve achieved.  Costs nothing to test each way though, thanks again.....
