FSX Issues

Postby Flying Mouse » Tue Nov 06, 2007 12:16 am

This post did not seem to work in Hardware so I decided to post it in here, hoping for some answers, hope I did the right thing, if not feel free to delete  ::)

Yeah so I bought it hoping I would enjoy the joy of DX10.

I did a TOTAL clean install, installed FSX Deluxe, SP1 then Acceleration.

I did not load any add-ons and tuned my settings as I had it before the expansion set. Only this time I activated DX10.

I noticed I had to restart FSX for it to take effect. So I did.

Restarted, loaded a flight in the mustang (active runway) Honolulu Intl.

Now before acceleration I would get 20-25 FPS with my settings at what it is.

NOW: with DX10 enabled at the very same settings I get 5-10 FPS at the same spot, active runway Honolulu Intl.

Of course staying on DX9 does look better then ever before, and provides a great performance boost.

My vista has all updates (Hot fixes) and my XFX driver is the 158 (I think)

8600 was never really designed for DX10.  sure, it supports it, but not very well, so stick with DX9.  if you really want DX10 goodness, get an 8800GT or better...

Rather sad, the card have been doing really well on some new releases using DX10.

I must also mention the DX9 works much better now then before acceleration. Guess I'll keep FSX on DX9 for now untill they "hopefully" release an enhancement patch.

Let's wait a month or so for Nvidia and ATI to release new drivers. Only after the new drivers are available will we be able to judge FSX DX9 vs FSX DX10 performance.
Intel Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz cooled w/ Zalman 9700
4GB G. Skill DDRII @ 800Mhz
512Mb AMD/ATI HD2900XT
Creative Audigy 2 ZX
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit

I had the simular problem. I uninstalled Acceleration, and everything went back to awesome. I didn't think to wait for driver updates, thanx for mentioning that Hugo. Semper Fi, Dave

Yeah I also wonder what this DX10 preview thing is all about? Sounds very "un-Finished". I did download the new forceware drivers and noted a small difference but I chose to stay with DX9 for the time being.

After all DX9 had a massive boost on my rig with acceleration. I can now see my macdonalds sign at 40 000 feet  ;D
