FSX Acceleration: Worth the Buy?

Postby Stubbedtoe18 » Sat Oct 27, 2007 9:31 pm

I (and probably several others) would like to know if FSX: Acceleration is worth the money to go out and get.

What advantages does it have over just FSX?

Absolutely.  It gives you 20 or 30 new missions, 10 photo-real scenery areas, and three new aircraft, and the three aircraft are modeled better than 99% of the payware out there.  The way I see it is where else can you get three payware aircraft and a bunch of scenery and missions for 30$ (or $18) at Circuit City?  To me, it was absolutely worth every penny I spent on it. ;)

Considering that the "DX10" part of it is <4% of the package, and limited to strictly a "Preview", the answer should be self-evident...

And if it's not, the answer is YES!  Personally, I just run in DX9 for now, but I'll probably switch to DX10 soon.

Have any of you who are now running Acceleration experienced any compatibility issues with 3rd party addons that were fine before installing Acceleration?

I have a number of planes that are missing textures, or have gone "Wonder Woman Style" invisible, but I am not sure that this problem isn't with my machine rather than with acceleration.
I have used the addon very little under DX9, so I will not comment on it, but under DX10, I gained some serious fps once I got it working (problem was deffinitly with my vid card, not acceleration).
Downside of DX10 is no antialiasing at this time. I am told that this will be fixed, and my fps may drop has a result, but for me DX10 improved my performance enough that I figure I won't be usin DX9 again either way.
In many areas, DX10 gives me twice the fps (sometimes more) than what I used to get on average, and allthough I didn't have much in the way of bluries before, they seem to be gone entirely now except around large cities. Even round cities, they are at a minimum.
Yes, I find Acceleration worth it to me.

If you fly FSX with only the default aircraft and default scenery then it may be worth it.

If you use it as a reality based simulation - not a game - but with a collection of carefully chosen sceneries and aircraft, then read the forums carefully before you buy.-
