Looking around I found this, which might be of interest to those of you using XP.....
"Directx 10 for XP is wanted from long time. An alpha version of it is available now. Alky Project has released a preview of Alky compatibility libraries for Microsoft DirectX 10 enabled games. This can be used for Windows Operating system other than Vista to play games which requires Directx 10. This project was aimed to make DirectX 10 compatible games to run on Non Vista operating systems."

I downloaded the files and installed them in my XP computer to no ill effects. I am eager to see what happens with the "Accelerator software and DX10"....

here:       http://www.technospot.net/blogs/downloa ... y-project/

and do read this: http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/

Then deside if you want to try it out............... ::) ::)

LOL

That guy has had that posted for months. Phil Taylor already adressed it and why it WONT work without the Vista core

His last blog entry is...

Lastly, we have nothing definitive to report in regards to our support for DirectX 10 based games. As announced in the very beginning, this is a monumental effort and will take a great deal of time to implement properly. We hope to have a fully functioning demo in two months or so.

there you have it

What you have is NOT something that will allow DX10 in FSX with XP. What you have right now is a DEV cycle SDK setup. It will not produce DX10 in FSX with XP

NickN,

For anyone doing a clean install of FSX prior to installing Acceleration, they **do not** need to install SP1.

XPack also includes SP1. When it goes to install, it checks for the presence of SP1. If it doesn't find it, it will install it too.

Just a little convenience (courtesy of ACES) for down the road when one might want (or has) to reinstall FSX. One stop shopping.

then there was a change prior to release

I see there was... Phil updated his blog

Edit:Acceleration includes SP2 bits, and SP1 and thus does not require SP1 to be pre-installed as there is room on the DVD for it, but the downloadable SP2 does require FSX-SP1 to be installed.

That ONLY applies to acceleration, NOT the downloadable SP2

I think that was a nice thing to do... therefore with a clean install and acceleration you can skip the SP1 install. Hmmmm

For those Americans talking money - from Australia you have nothing to complain about.

Our dollars are almost at parity - but to get it on release we will have to pay $49.00.

I know it is airfreighted out (747-400F), but the price difference is pretty ridiculous.

Yes we can buy from the States, but even with good despatch and airmail it takes time.

And I'm not patient, so I'm the sucker they look for.

Atleast the dollar is low which helps slightly. :) I renember back in the old days paying over $150 AUD ($135USD), for MSFS.

I was not laughing at you just laughing at the fact this came up again

1.      Its not possible without the Vista core and although certain elements can be accessed, the core elements which makes DX10 run in Vista are tied directly to the OS.

2.      If he manages to hack that and puts it on the net, which I doubt (Vista and XP do not have the same core), MS legal will have a field day with him.

3.      I get the impression what you have here is a graphics programmer who also knows how search engine optimizing works. What better way to get attention for SEO than to post highly controversial subject matter with the restriction of DX10 to Vista, and, use a plethora of keywords and RSS in blog posts to get business attention.
