as long as you do not have any ridiculous texture or autogen hacks in place, you are good to go. Unlike SP1, SP2 does not require a pristine install with no add-ons. But, there are SP2/Acceleration updates for some products such as recorder module, etc, and there may be -some- freeware issues here and there since most freeware devs are not in the loop with SP2 development. Other that that, install and go.

I thought they were doing both a DX10 for XP, and a DX10 for Vista, since the majority of people have XP.

Without being unkind this has been explained many, many times.

DX10 comes embedded in Vista.  No Vista, no DX10.

XP runs DX9 but cannot provide the DX10 features.

And just to add to it ... you must have Vista AND a DX10 capable video card such as the nVidia 8800 series.... or else no DX10 FSX.

Vista+8800GTX=FSX using DX10, which then=happiness?

I will be uninstalling FSX and then reinstalling a fresh new version along with the accelerator pack.
I have been fidling with FSX for a while and think that I have worked out all the bugs on my machine to do the best it can.

Nick, can I save my current CFG file, uninstall FSX, reinstall then overwrite the new on with my original to save all my settings, etc...

Thanks,
Dave

That will work fine Dave. If you are not interested in saving the logbook or any other aspect but config settings, that will work.

You must make sure on a clean install you follow the following procedure:

RTM Install
Fire up the sim and allow it to complete its install, and then make the graphic hardware adjustments. Fire up a flight. You do not have to fly it, just boot one.

Close the sim and reboot.

Note: If you use the deluxe version and the SDK, you must install the RTM SDK

SP1 Install
Fire up the sim and allow it to complete its install, and then close the sim and merge your old FSX.cfg to the sim. Open the sim and verify the settings. Close the sim and reboot.

Note: If you use the deluxe version and the SDK, you must install the SP1 SDK

Acceleration/SP2 Install
Fire up the sim and allow it to complete its install, and then close the sim and reboot.

There is an Acceleration SDK included.

For Vista and XP, make sure you have the latest DirectX updates and make sure your drivers are current.

Before flying, make sure to perform the full O&O Defrag pass maintenance as outlined in the tweak thread.

NOTE: SP2 introduces the >2GB switch in the FSX.exe file. If you running XP or Vista x32 and have >2GB of memory installed, or, have OOM issues, you must manually mark the OS for greater than 3GB use. x64 XP or Vista users need not worry about that. The process for marking the OS is different for Vista and XP and can be found by searching the forums.
