Aircraft not shown in FSX

Postby ND6849C » Fri Oct 26, 2007 10:58 pm

I have followed instructions to import FS2004 aircraft into the Sim Objects/airplanes dir in FSX, and many show up, but some do not.

I think one of the most common causes of FS9 aircraft not showing on the FSX selection menu is the panel being aliased to an aircraft that is not included with FSX. For example; many 3rd party airliners are aliased to use the panel of the FS9 default b737_400. Change this to the FSX default b737_800 to fix the problem. Open Panel.cfg in Notepad & change this:

[fltsim]
alias=b737_400\panel

to this:

[fltsim]
alias=b737_800\panel

Many FS9 addon jets also have their sound aliased to the FS9 b737_400. This should not prevent them being listed on the FSX selection menu but these aircraft would have no sound. The fix is to edit Sound.cfg in the same way as above. You can alias the panel & sound to any aircraft you wish providing they are not aliased themselves & are installed to the same directory. The easiest method would be to paste a copy of the panel/sound folder of the aircraft you wish to use the panel/sound of into the folder of the aircraft you wish to use it, replacing the existing panel/sound folders.

'Alias' means the stuff in the panel or sound folder where the panel or sounds from another aircraft are used.

For example if your sound folder contains just a file called 'sound.cfg'

Image

replace the text with one of the following

Here are a few handy aliases:

[fltsim]
alias=Airbus_A321\sound

[fltsim]
alias=B737_800\sound

[fltsim]
alias=Lear45\sound

[fltsim]
alias=C172\sound

[fltsim]
alias=Douglas_DC3\sound

[fltsim]
alias=Bombardier_CRJ_700\sound

[fltsim]
alias=Beech_King_Air_350\sound

[fltsim]
alias=beech_baron_58\sound

Just make sure the aircraft referred to exists in your simulator.

______________

Likewise with the panel folder (panel.cfg) - just change the

[fltsim]
alias=B737_800\sound

to

[fltsim]
alias=B737_800\panel

If you intend using a lot of FS9 aircraft in FSX the easiest method would be to create a dummy folder of the missing FS9 default for aliasing to. Create a new folder in the FSX\SimObjects\airplanes directory & rename it to b737_400. Then paste copies of the FSX default b737_800 panel & sound folders into it. All FS9 aircraft aliased to the b737_400 will now use the FSX default panel & sound without further editing/modification.

This should fix most of those installation problems at a stroke & you will probably find that most of those missing FS9 aircraft suddenly appear on the selection menu.

Try my last tip. I suspect that will fix most of your problems.

For the thumbnail take a screenshot of the aircraft in FSX. Reduce the image to a suitable size* & save it in JPEG format as thumbnail.jpg. Paste this into the Texture folder of the aircraft. There is a utility for doing this automatically posted somewhere on SimV but I haven't tried it. Autothumbnail v2 here --> http://www.simviation.com/fsxutilities1.htm

*The size is not really important but the default files are 256 x 128 pixels.
