HJG Aircraft in FSX HELP?

Postby Rayzor174 » Wed Sep 19, 2007 1:38 pm

I recently visited Air Force One at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, now I want to fly it. HGJ has the very plane on his site, part of Simviation. However, Tony Madge, from the site said that someone here could help me with installing the plane in FSX. Here's my Goal, Install the plane it's the 1981 VC137C 72-7000, the panel, I believe it's the 137b/c advanced and the correct sounds for it, not sure which ones. (as wel as the correct Core files). I've tried several times but the plane never shows up in FSX. I need a simple easy to follow direction in which files to download and how to make it all work in FSX. I'm not a young pup so please make it simple!
Any help would be GREATLTY appreciated.

I believe it has an autoinstaller?

What I am doing with FS9 models that install themselves to the "\Aircraft"  folder is:

I created an "Aircraft" folder off of the main FS-X folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Aircraft

I then edited the FSX.cfg file (located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG

with the following under the [MAIN] Section

[Main]
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=Aircraft   <---------------added line.

THings to consider:
Some panels may reference gauges in some "ex default"  planes that are no longer there, or the paths are different.  In this case, you'll find "black holes"  and then will have to hand-edit the panel.cfg file.

No. It involves several downloads & is a tad complicated to install. I tried it in the FSX Demo & it works fine.

I don't have time for a full walkthrough right now but these are the files you need in the order they should be installed;

Boeing VC-137C Base Pack (HJG_Boeing_VC-137C_v5.zip) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/aircraft/boeing/vc-137.htm

1981 - 72-7000 - VC-137C Textures (vc-137c_usaf_1981_72-7000.zip) on same page

B707-320B/C "Adv" panel (b707-320badvc_panel1965.zip) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/panels/boeing.htm

B707 Gauges (b707_core_files.zip) on same page as above

P&W JT3D-3B FANJET B707-320B sound package (aeromusica_b707_jt3d-3b.zip) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/sounds/boeing.htm

To avoid complicating things any further I strongly suggest installing the base package to the FSX\SimObjects\airplanes folder.

I've dowloaded all that you suggested....and installed the base pack to the aircraft folder as suggested....then i added the texture files and changed the aricraft.cfg as described....I've NOT added anything else yet. BUT the aircraft still does NOT show up in my FSX. What am I doing wrong?

To install the base package please paste the HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder to the FSX\SimObjects\airplanes folder. The textures should now be installed in their original folder named texture.usaf_1981_137c_72-7000
Paste this into the HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder.

There are 2 CFG files in the HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder. Delete the file named aircraft.cfg & rename the one named aircraft_fsx.cfg to aircraft.cfg. This is the one you will edit. Then add the following entry in red - not forgetting to change the [fltsim.xx] number to the next in sequence. As this is the first variation it will be [fltsim.0]

[b]// Add your [fltsim.xx] sections here.
// Remember to start with 0 (zero).
// Copyright Historic Jetliners Group. No uploading of HJG materials to any website without prior approval.

[fltsim.0]
                 // Change "xx" to next number in sequence starting from 0

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I work a 48 hr shift and just got home.
I started from sctatch sgain and followed your directions.
It still does not show up at all in free flight.
Something is missing or wrong for it not to show up at all?

Right. Let's start again.

Extract Boeing HJG_Boeing_VC-137C_v5.zip & paste the contents, a folder named HJG Boeing VC-137C v5, into your Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\airplanes folder.

Extract vc-137c_usaf_1981_72-7000.zip & paste the contents, a folder named texture.usaf_1981_137c_72-7000, into the HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder you just installed to FSX. It should now look something like this.
Image

Delete the file named aircraft.cfg from the HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder. Rename the file named aircraft_fsx.cfg to aircraft.cfg

Open your new aircraft.cfg in Notepad & add the entry in red in my previous reply into it. You can copy it direct from my post & paste it in exactly as shown. Exit Notepad saving changes when prompted.

If you did all that it should be listed on the FSX Free Flight selection menu as Boeing VC-137C United States Air Force (1981).
Image

Please tell me if that worked for you. It's possible it won't have any sound but don't worry about it. When you get this far we can install the panel & sound.

WOOHOO! It worked this time!I REALLY appreciate you taking your time to help me with this! The ONLY thing I did different was when I renamed the .cfg folder I renamed it to "aircraft", left out the .cfg, it defaults to a .cfg file.
But your were right, no sound....
so as to sound and the right panel what next?

Excellent. ;)

Now we have it working I'll do a walkthrough on installing the panel & sound for you. This might take a while.

These are the files you need.

B707-320B/C "Adv" panel (b707-320badvc_panel1965.zip) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/panels/boeing.htm

B707 Gauges (b707_core_files.zip) on same page as above

P&W JT3D-3B FANJET B707-320B sound package (aeromusica_b707_jt3d-3b.zip) http://www.simviation.com/hjg/sounds/boeing.htm

I forgot to tell you, I live WAY out in the country and only have a REAL slow dial up connection. I previously downloaded a panel and sound file based on my memory of the real thing. I DL the adv panel that was from 1970 and the sound for the 320C fanjet.....it will take me several hours to DL the files you suggested......can we make the ones I have downloaded already work....and then i can download the "correct" files at work on wednesday when I go back...I have DSL at work. it will take me <5 min to dl at work compared to 8 hrs+ at home.

OK Tim. No problem but I'll have to download the files myself

OK, let's install the panel first. I'll ignore the instructions & show you the method I use to install 3rd party panels to all versions of FS.

Extract b707-320badvc_panel1970.zip. It contains a folder named panel.b707-320badvc.1970. Paste this folder into your HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 folder in FSX. We're going to rename this folder to Panel but first back up the existing Panel folder by renaming it. (I suggest renaming it to something like Panel.0)

Open the new Panel folder & you will see 2 CFG files. Delete panel.cfg & rename panel_fsx.cfg to panel.cfg (Make sure you do it right this time. ;))

Now for the gauges. Extract b707_core_files.zip. You will see two folders named gauges & sound.
Open the gauges folder & click Edit/Select All. Paste the contents (3 x GAU files) into FSX\Gauges.
Go back & do the same with the sound folder, this time pasting the contents (27 x WAV files) into the FSX\Sound folder. Note that these sounds are for the panel & not the aircraft.

When you select the aircraft in FSX you will get this pop-up.
Image

Click Run & you will get this.
Image
Click Yes again.

This will be repeated for one other gauge. Click Yes both times.

That should do it.

Now for the sound. This is very straightforward. Extract aeromusica_b707_jt3d-7.zip & look for a folder named sound containing 40 WAV files + 1 Panel.cfg file.
Paste this sound folder into your HJG Boeing VC-137C v5 in FSX overwriting folders when prompted.

I hope this makes sense & works for you.
