A different point of view

FSX including FSX Steam version.

A different point of view

Postby ramsa329 » Fri Sep 21, 2007 1:22 pm

This post will be a very unusual one for me as I usually do not involve myself with posting unless it directly affects my work.

This may be quite a bit longer than some other posts but lately I have felt an ever growing need to express my feelings on the subject of FSX.

Every time that a new version of any graphics intensive software is released there is an almost immediate need to upgrade hardware yet on these forums it

Hey Michael,
Thanks for the post!

Great to hear positive things from people who are involved with FSX and the many add ons that are in the works.
I totally agree with what you are saying.
As you know, it was not flying FSX until recently. I finally got around to tweaking my machine as best as I could.
Since I need some hardware upgrades, I have been trying to hold out as long as possible so that when I do upgrade,
the hardware will have some shelf life before it is antiquated ;)

So I have spent time tweaking, reading, testing, etc.. FSX the best I can.
I am happy with what I get but need to face the fact that I too need to spend some money.
From what I can see with the results I get from my machine, the upgrades will be well worth it. I can tell that FSX is far superior to FS9. (I used to think different).
Yeah, I have accepted that I can only push my machine so far but I too applaud ACES for the platform they have given us. I know what you mean about certain areas are breathtaking.

Thanks for the positive perspective, now how about some screenshots as I miss seeing them!  ;)

Dave

Interesting words Ramsa - things seem to have calmed down now though with SP1 and more and more people are quietly 'moving up'. The main reason for not getting FSX for me these days is not fear of upgrading (I reckon my hardware should run it okay

It's looking like the adjustment period will be about the same as it was for the FS8-FS9, as far as users are concerned. My cousin has settled into a nice $800 recipe (AMD X2 6000 / EVGA8800-640) for an entry-level FSX computer that's performing quite nicely for the several people who've asked him to build it... And a  Q6700 / EVGA8800-768 machine that runs FSX very well for those wanting to spend twice that.. It's a little bigger curve for developers, though..  I, for one, had a few fits making an FSX only model, but it was worth it, and the newest model is progressing nicely. There is SO much more flexibility when it comes to animations and DVC design... and the texturing possibilities are mind-boggling..

Mean time, FS9 is a wonderful sim. If you had to start from scratch, you could set up a computer that tears through FS9 for about $600.. Everybody wins  :)

I totally agree with this post.  Sorry for all those who couldn't run around with FSX and good settings within a week of its release but its bound to happen. I got lucky and built a computer (was about time anyway) and its great for FSX so far. Not perfect and I still get pissed with FSX just like any other Microsoft product.  But the advantages far surpass the defects. Helicopter dynamics seem 20x better then FS9 to me and the default planes are still some of the best out there,  in FS9 most add-ons are better.  It will take a little time but FSX I believe will soon far surpass FS9 in popularity.
