I find the 4.5/3.0 ratio much better than 2/1 if some people are still using it. I also have a hard time beleiving autogen was reduced in SP1... I have two screenshots here that show identical autogen.

Bear Grylls? Wtf? Why bring him in? What about Chuck Norris?

[quote]The vastly improved batching of Autogen was one of the major performance items in SP1 and helps to reach our target reduction of 35-40% for Draw and SetTexure calls. However, it does have an implication that, when coupled with a feature we lost from FS9, you should be aware of.

FSX does not

[quote]Yes I have been working on AG of 1000/1000 but its now a matter of preference based on your system.

About a week ago I got very, very, very, very pissed off at fsX. Almost was going to snap the disk in half then mail the peices back to Microsoft. I then Reinstalled fsX, grabbed autogen and shader folders, fsx.exe, fsX.cfg and the modules then copied them to a seperate folder. I then installed SP1 and now can easily swap between SP1 and RTM with ease. I saved the flight for the comparisin no 'faking' involving here. If you want...  I can do that a million times without a problem... each with nearly exactly the same lighting and cloud conditions. Maybe if I save it paused, I can get EXACTLY the same conditions? Want more to prove it isn't faked?

But the thing is... even if it is faked it doesn't mean what he's actually doing is fake. The reality is... he actually DID kill that rabit with a stick (lol), his boat did sink in Alaska, and he DID swim to shore, they showed him swimming to shore. He DID climb down a steep, 250 foot rock face with no safety equipment and he did bit off a snakes head and ate it. I could care less if a film crew is following him around.... he still does, and teaches you these things. The joke was from an add of Discovery channel...

First of all I never meant there was no diferance in the autogen in RTM vs Sp1. I meant there was no noticable diferance in the autogen and scenery RADIUS as that's what we were talking about, the reason why I said that in the first place as because I failed to understand what 'major AG radius' is in the following post that you made:
[quote]When they produced SP1 the reduced the major AG radius to 2.5 miles and also took out the alpha fade, then changed the way they were rendered and also changed the files that call for the AG[ch8230] therefore all the numbers we had where we could use FS9 to compare and base a ratio to FSX, are now trash.

And why are you argueing with me about Bear Grylls? After a joke (that noone probably got) in another thread? Because I think most of the things he does on the show are real? I will remind you again, his boat DID sink in Alaska, and he DID swim to shore, they showed him swimming to shore. He DID climb down a steep, 250 foot rock face with no safety equipment and he did bit off a snakes head and ate it and he DID create an awsome little shelter. That was in two episodes.

And AGAIN, I could care less whether he had pizza between shoots. What is on the show is real... atleast most of it.

I was not accusing you of anything..

Maybe.

But you are taking a cheap shot at me.

;D

thats ok

I can drill a few holes in a canoe and paddle my way until it sinks and swim to shore in cold water, even at 82 years old, especially when I have everything I need to be warmed up waiting for me when I get to shore, including a huge paycheck for doing a silly 2 minute stunt on TV that was never a risk or a feat of survival because if anything went wrong, the camera man and crew were there to pull me out.

At 82, I can't, but any well trained climber can do what he did for the 4-6 broken shots they took on camera. You have to remember that every time a camera view changes, they stopped, meaning, he could rest, have a rope thrown to him to move down, etc, etc, etc and continue the shot of him doing it on his own where it was safer to do the on camera recording... your watching TV, nothing real about it, just like MSFS

What you see on TV is set up and the camera tricks you into thinking you saw something amazing or realistic

[b]here is reality... if you are stuck on the side of a mountain and you had absolutely no climbing training whatsoever... you attempt what he showed you to do as the correct way to get down

ego's

you got one big one and for some reason you dont seem to understand the words "Im wrong"

The only one with an enflated ego is you. You're trying to impose your thoughts on Man vs Wild on me... derailing the thread and ending it with:
This has gone way off topic now, and for me, the subject is closed

Gee.... I wonder who derailed it. Over a joke!? I'm sure a misunderstanding leads to me having a 'big ego'. ::) And that leads me to the cheap shot thing.

You:
Said owned at the end of the post after you claimed them images where faked.
Were trying to impose your thoughts on me on a telivison show after a joke.

That is a cheap shot whether you think so or not.

Facts:

miltestpilot, I have already said that I did not understand what you meant by 'major AG'. You explained there thank you. Why not before? Yes, I was wrong, so were you.

I still stand by my claims that reduced scenery radius isn't noticable, atleast on my system. So I guess I'm blind.

It is noticable. And the RTM autogen.bgl somewhat fixed it.

Sorry Guys:  but lost somewhere in that personal debate is a piece of important information.

Miltestpilot - am I correct in reading that you replaced the SP1 autogen .bgl with the RTM .bgl?

Could you describe how the improvement appeared to you.  And if it had any unintended performance consequences.

SP1 is now essential for the new add-ons, so I have adjusted to it, but I do find the 'popping' a real return backwards to FS9.

I am going to tell you guys what happened here.

I did not go after him with the intention of insulting or attacking, I said that I did not know the source of the images he posted and nothing I posted was a personal attack on him.

He was all wound up because I called him on the settings changes for MergeDirtyRegionUpdates= and DirtyRegionUpdateLimit= not doing anything but being a placebo because they have nothing to do with ground or aircraft textures, its about the cockpit with certain driver issues.

Also, he tried to claim on page 2 of this thread that the numbers NickN

I did it. And the autogen radius increased somewhat.

I can't say anything about performance, since my FSX runs nicely with maximum autogen.
