Would someone please explain why...

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Would someone please explain why...

Postby Airshow_lover » Sat Aug 11, 2007 3:22 pm

...after installing the SP1, my dual core is still only running 50%?

It was working fine a few days ago, with both cores working at the same time, but today I opened up Task Manager, and it showed only one was working.  >:(

So, any ideas?

First of all, what type of processor do you have?

Older Intel Hyperthread processors, which are not true dual core, are ignored by FSX but show up in Windows task manager as a dual core, which they are not.

Are you using an edited FSX.cfg file from the original install? Or is this a clean install with no FSX.cfg edits?

Lots of questions

Is this WindowsXP? Do you have the WindowsXP Dual Core Hotfix installed correctly and working?

If you are using a REAL dual core processor, and you are using an old FSX.cfg, delete it and let FSX build a new one.

You can also add this line to the config file:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=3

3= dual core, 7 = 3 cores, 15 = 4 cores

NOTE TO QUAD CORE USERS: a value of 14 may be a good one to try. What that does is shut down CORE0 to FSX and allow the system to have CORE0 for all its use,,.. then FSX uses CORE1-2-3

By doing that you can eliminate stutters brought on by Windows/programs/drivers/network backgroud activity and allow those to have the first core of the quad, which they look for by default.

Ok, never mind. It seems FSX was just glitching up on me.

It's fine now.

Thanks for the help though :)
