That didn't help really, now the shortcuts won't work.  I'll have to try the other methods too.  I downloaded the Microsoft thing but it won't unzip (I don't have winzip)

What OS are you running? XP has it's own unzip utility. Personally I prefer Winzip but the XP utility should unzip a file.

You have to follow the instructions for running the program.

Thanks a lot for those Step-by-Step instructions right there!  I am currently repairing (reinstalling) FSX right now and am hoping for the best.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

So should I just uninstall then reinstall?

O.K. Well it won't install.  It was installing for a half hour until the error come up saying there was an error.  Now I can;'t play at all.

I have always found that it is best to uninstall and reinstall.

But save to another place the contents of those files you need - ie Addon Scenery, flights, logbooks and the like.  Then once reinstalled, replace the contents back into their appropriate folders in FSX.

Some add-ons like mesh however have to be reinstalled after the game is reinstalled.

I don't know how many times I have reinstalled and I am sure I leave things out when I replace the add-ons.  But in a peculiar way it is cleansing - airports I have installed and never use.

Other add-ons like GenX photoreal scenery of England and Wales is a pain in the ... to reinstall in the scenery library.

And make sure you keep all of your licence keys and the like for commercial add-ons because you never never know when you will need them -- but need them you will.

Have fun, in the end it is the for the best.

Yah um I reinstalled after full uninstallation and the the same error message is popping up, so it won't reinstall.  It pops up right at the end.  Now I can't play at all.

It just isn't finding the program. You are in the wrong directory and the instructions from Microsoft assume you are already in the C:\MicrosoftKB928080 directory.


Start at step 7.

7. Extract the files to the following folder: C:\MicrosoftKB928080

 

Create a shortcut to the program "resetsldl.exe" in the folder created in step 7 by right clicking on the program and selecting "Create Shortcut". Now right click on the shortcut and choose "Properties". In the line that says "Target" copy paste this:

C:\MicrosoftKB928080\resetsldl.exe -All

Now double click the shortcut.

k thanks a lot for all your help, I'll be trying that as soon as I can.  unfortunetly, my dad needs the comp so I have to get off now.  Let yah know how it works out.  Pretty sure I did that, but I'll retry in case I missed something.
