Yea, we'll have to wait and see. But it really seems like DX10 requires a lot more processing power to display even the same things as DX9. On the other hand, when more powerful hardware becomes available DX10 will allow developers to create much better-looking games than with DX9.
And DX10 has other advantages. I've been learning how to program using the DX10 SDK and I can tell you that it's way more powerful than DX9 and way easier to work with. DX9 was a complete mess but DX10 was redesigned from scratch and is really well organized. That will allow developers to produce great games and in less time.
