Flight Simulator Service Pack 1 Problem

Postby majoraman » Mon Jul 16, 2007 9:07 am

Hey guys, first off apoligies if its in the wrong forum :)

I have recently installed FSX service pack 1 and have expeirenced nothing but problems since the get go. The loading screen is bugged, panels not showing up properly, in spot view, the exterior of the plane is grey, blocky with lots of jagged boxes all over the place. Now before i go ripping into Microsoft about a patch making things worse, could there be any thing to do with my PC doing this

My Specs are as follows:

AMD 64 Bit 3200+
2 GB DDR Ram
ATI Radion X1800 (256mb)
60Gig HD
Windows XP with Service Pack 2

ideally my pc is not the best to run FSX but it worked fine on the settings i had before i patched it. I did not tinker with the settings after i installed

Anyone have any ideas?

How did you install it ? I mean SP1 ?
Were you aware that before installing it, you had either to uninstall and reinstall FSX completely, or do a complete repair ?
The patch would not apply correctly if your FSX was already modified. The patch only applies on a clean install of FSX.

What I did is the repair. You do not have to remove your addon sceneries (just declare them again after the SP1 install) or addon planes at all, the purpose of the repair is just to put back the default files in their original format.

You said that you installed FSX and then directly patched it without even launching it, but in your first message you state that it was working correctly before the patch ?  :-? So, did you launch it or not ?

After uninstall, did you check that the little folder 'FSX' in "My documents\....\microsoft games" was deleted as well ?
I'm not talking about the main installation folder, I'm talking about this small folder created for storing your personnal settings, the one that contains the FSX.cfg file.
