Can't help you over the problem with the model, although I suspect some of the ground vehicles might have better flight characteristics than the real world Heron. DH knew how to create parasite drag, and fit underpowered engines.
It was the first aircraft that I ever flew in. I was 15yrs old, and I was hooked.
Later on I became an instrument rated multi-engined GA pilot.
I flew from Nelson NZ to the long gone Rongatai airport close to where today's Wellington airport was built in the 50s.
Before that we had to cross Cook Strait in an old ferry - really a coastal steamer.
My first trip to the States - Sydney-Honolulu-Los Angeles - was in a 707. And every passenger who wanted got to visit the flight deck. And the kids could stretch out on the floor and go to sleep. The kids saw their first McDonalds in Honolulu and we all ate the fantastic burgers (exotic food from a country that specialised in fish and chips or Chinese as a take-away) - though maccas it seems is a crime to eat these days. They were the olden days.
And if you think that makes me old, I am.
