Updated everything and changed No ATC Voice in FSX

Postby lordofyardley » Sun Jul 01, 2007 7:45 pm

Changed the CPU to an E6700, updated everything and voila flying high. Incredible. Even got a 5.4 rating. No more blue screens etc. However, though sounds like music, gear down, flaps, and engines sound awesome, I can see the ATC communication but the sound is so low its almost inaudible. Anyone else had this problem? any fixes?

Make sure you have the sliders set correctly. 8-)

I had exactly the same experience.  Not even a 'repair' run worked.

I reinstalled FSX, including deleting the FSX folder (via my computer etc) and reinstalling.

A  pain in the butt but it worked.

I have the e6700 and its a great CPU - I'm glad its running well for you.   (Incidentally I have FFTF at .10, and TBM at 30 and it makes the whole thing smooth.  I alternate between a fixed framerate of 28 and unlimited which seems to operate well in slightly different settings.  But FSX is a CPU hog and the blurries can be the result for me without these few tweaks.  I have also reduced Autogen trees and houses to 1000 each, but this is a matter of taste with some people leaving them at default.

I often forget to turn off my antivirus yet the game still runs really well.

If you have more than 2gigs of RAM you may want to try the Out of Memory remedy that Miltestpilot has explained in another thread in this forum.

As Gary said, it's the sliders.

Speech sounds should be set to 100, the rest to 50 or less. Then crank up the volume on your speakers and ATC should be a bit more audible.

hi. hope this might help.
are you using win XP? i used to have a similar problem - all sounds were on - all but voices: i could not hear ATC, flying lessons instructor, or voices of missions. this appears only on FSX. it turns out that unlike FS9, the voice is routed to a different channel than all the rest. so i looked into my control panel and found that "voices" goes to a different sound card: in my sound setting - in the control panel there was a voice tab and my voice default playback device was not the same one i expected to hear sound from.
(i got 4 sound cards  ;D)
after fixing this the problem was gone.

hope this will help. i got Vista now and had no problems with this issue.

ok so I played with the sliders (I have Vista 32) and even with everything except voice at 0 the voice of the ATC is like in the bottom of a very deep well, barely audible. It sounds like its coming from the left midrange ONLY and I have the volume slider all the way up at 100 on the windows control bar (lower right). I ran the audio tests and get blasted by the sound. There has to be something else going on.

I have the default sound board that came with the P5NSLI ASUS board and its set to stereo . The THX marantz powered woofer is plugged into the LINE OUT (green) and the two speakers are attached and powered thru the woofer. If I turn up the woofer even a bit I get hum but the speaker volume turned up to max is deafening except for the ATC voice.

Im not sure where it is in vista but you need to make sure that in audio setting that the voice playback is set to your sound card and not someother device. In XP its under contrloopanel, sound and audio devices, and then voice tab. Id look there first.

Referring back to the blue screens and mid-flight crashes.  It often happened to me, either a crash and just a message saying that there was an error or even more frustrating it would hang.  The plane on the screen with engines running and going nowhere.  I assumed these to be the same out of memory problem, downloaded the fix recommended by Miltestpilot and made the command prompt change and all was cured.  The game is now using 2500 gigs of RAM and touch wood, all seems well.

On the sound problem I can only support other posters.  It seems your problem is different to mine, and lies in the sound card or mobo and not just in the game where my problem was.
