hey I'm kinda lik'n these beta's with my 7900GT nice link there mate. the simulator seems more tame now(still not perfect though) but a good step.

will give the radius tweak a shot as well.  I guess we just have to accept this sim is going to be a little jerky. I can still manage to fly though so Im happy with it for now. (still wish it was smooth as silk though) :-/

Yes, now im having a problem with drivers causing laggy system performance and slower bootup and my games and system started crashing unexplainable so I uninstalled em back to my old drivers, still crashing. Ran stability tests everything was ok. Set EVERYTHING back to stock still crashing. I just uninstalled nTune to see if thats the prob. Things seem better now besides FSX randomly freezing now. Kinda querky problem. Maybe it was a bad install of drivers or my system dosen't like the drivers as much as FSX "seemed" too. I hope I can get it worked out that way when my new ram gets here I will have a clean base to start from for my tweaking adventures ;D

Err...of course there's no difference when you're zoomed out from the cockpit.

Try zoom 1.0, spot view and recompare.

I use a zoom settings of .7. Yay! Now I can make other sliders higher! :D :D :D

If you are not working those numbers you are getting limited results unless you have one of those new fangled DX10 cards

XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

you must have hidden files and folders disabled in Windows to find it

Control Panel, Folder Options, View Tab, scroll down and put a bullet in "Show hidden files and folders" , click apply

Gunnerman: go to p13 of this thread, and copy the two lines Terrain_Max etc, trees and buildings into the Terrain section of the fsx.cfg file from NickNs post.  Miltest pilot also has the same but without numbers (you must put in numbers).  Copy the two lines as they are, Save, and try out.  You may need to go back and adjust the numbers after the equal sign to improve performance. Read the thread, these guys are good.  It is one of about five tweaks that drive us mad.  Welcome to the great FSX Twitch.

Ok thanks, right after I posted it it dawned on me to google where it was heh...thx anyway. Ok I will post those lines in and see what I can get. Right now I am running Med/High settings that workin well untill I installed these new lighting textures, they gobbled up a few FPS. As of now my fsx.cfg is at default because I jsut reinstalled the sim. What does TBM do?

Well I just added all of the lines and changed my cfg to match what Nick posted. I need to fly somewhere dense but so far it held steady for the most part at 18 FPS, I still got some "large" stutters though but that was expected because Nicks machine is leaps ahead of mine.

By the way Tweak FS have a very good utility called CFG Editor.  I find it saves me from hunting down the .cfg file every time I need it.  MS did a great job of hiding it.

Miltestpilot and NickN amongst others are the best to give you an explanation of what Texture Bandwith Multiple is, but I understand it as the size of the pipeline that you open to your video card.  Most modern cards can take more than the default value of 40 in the game.  If your card only has 256 of onboard memory then 80, and up from there.  But remember that tweaking FSX is a matter of increasing one value, and decreasing others.  It is frustrating and maddening, but makes the difference.

If your equipment is old and slow, stick to FS9 until you can afford a decent upgrade.  Other threads on the forum can give you a clue to what is the best hardware, but the end of the year sounds like the best time, when the next generation of super CPUs and Video cards come on the market at super prices.

If you backed up your folders and files, then ditch the replacement lighting textures, I did and return to the originals.  If they are the ones I think, they replaced the blocky lights of the original, with unreal star shaped things. Always back up, because some of the cures are worse than the disease.

My computer isint "old and slow" but its not dual core. The textures are from Zinertek, I just got them today and threw them in. I had my sim running fine and I was happy but I jumped into the tweaker bandwagon because I love to tweak and see just how much I can push out of it. What I found the tweak/s did was replace high res textures for autogen, and now I see a very defined "texture circle" around my A/c where the high res textures smoothly flow into place. The autogen tweak has worked very well though. I give props to everyone that has taken the time to figure out of some these parameters etc.  I am running AMD64 3700+ San Diego @ 2.75Ghz, 7800GTX (Factory OC), 1 GB OCZ Plat. Rev 2 ram at 250 Mhz - 3-3-3-8 timings. I have a new 2 GB kit arriving tomorrow because the 1 GB is not cutting it for any of my games anymore. It seems what this sim wants is lots of CPU and lots of Vram. Tomorrow morning when I get more time I will try and post some of my own results and maybe it can be added to the collection of settings that seems to be growing :P

Going to 2 gig of RAM  is the right thing to do, 1 gig is just not enough for a CPU hungry sim like this.  However if you found that it was running better first up, then don't hesitate to uninstall/reinstall.  We have all done it many times, so it is a familiar process.  Yes the zinertek did not work for me.

GunnerMan... I have been watching my RAM usage closely. With 2G I stay at a fairly constant 65%. Hopefully you will see a bit of improvement with the RAM upgrade.

Also I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions/tweaks/input. A bunch of pages in the thread and no bitching or grousing. I have found this thread very positive.

Did a test flight today EDDV-LKPR. With LOD_Detail_Radius at 6.5, I had no blurries at all and the sim was still smooth.
