Ok this seems to be the FSWX tweak thread and its not like fs9 where there was a few posts with some good tweaks to try and sifting through all the rants, and replys is a tad hard to find the tweaks so maybe we can start a dedicated tweak thread where people only post cfg tweaks? That way ppl that are lookin to squeeze a tad more out of their sim can more easily find em? Cant we learn to live with the fact that our 3 yr old machine can't run the latest and the greatest at its greatest someday soon?  ;D

It cant run this software smooth no matter what. Like I said before I turned EVERYTHING down...all sliders and still got the 10-20 second stutters.

Remember all of those rumors about MS pulling the plug on the flight sim franchise awhile back.  If they keep up the good work, theyll have all the reason they need to justify dropping it, but theyll say it was from lack of interest in the sim.  Todd   >:(

that would be a true statement...sadly.

Well my post was more directed on making a easy to follow tweaks thread but yall are focusing on my little side comment that was half made out of sarcasm ;D

I understand with sp1 the tweaks are hit or miss and thats why i thought well there are many variations so lets make a thread of them and we can take a look at the ones that worked for some ppl and go from there.

I have 3 sets of settings saved for different flying conditions but would be willing to give it a try.

How about a list of the CFG settings you would like to see and a short list of computer specs (GPU & CPU and clock speed)?

Setting LOD_Detail_Radius to more than 4.5 seemed to improve things a bit concerning ground textures.

But:

1. The higher the setting, the longer is the loading times.
2. The higher the setting, the more sluggish the texture load upon switching views (plane textures).
3. Don't ever set it to more than ~11 - except you want to see FSX and your PC crash with a nice error message and a knocked out graphics driver (a reboot fixed this; happened to me at 13.5).

It would be nice if some of you guys (especially John (miltestpilot)) tested this and reported back with results.

- Edit: Don't be scared to try it - worst case is a reboot.

[quote] That does it

After spending days getting this trimmed out I had a great flight in a Lear but when I started to descend into KSEA it was socked in overcast and the sim started stuttering like a bucking bronco and frames dropped out. I had to drop TBM to 120 and that got rid of most of the stutters and frames came back up but I am sick and tired to setting up this piece of $*%! just to have to reset something when a mouse farts to the left instead of the right.

I can have high AG with blurred ground or fairly sharp ground and so-so AG and it always changes depending on the direction of the clouds.

According to comments across the web, those drivers seem to be really good!  :o

I went back to RTM last night  Uninstall and reinstall.  Without putting all the tweaks back in I have to say my performance is no worse, and in many ways better than with SP1.  Yes I have put the autogen hack, and tree hack, into the game.  I dropped FFTF to .10 and it works far better than at the higher settings we used.  I am rereading the FSX and SP1 thread again, but what I like is that one setting can do all, or at most an adjustment over the dense cities.  Back to the Future.

Thanks Nick for providing the link to the beta drivers, my video card will now overclock finally! Hopefuly I will get to squeeze a few more Mhz out of her. These drivers seem promising but have yet to give them a go in FSX, right now I am currently testing the LOD Radius tweak mentioned above(I had to set it at 13.5 just because you told me not to, was very very slow but it looked nice!) For a real go at it I set it at 6 but it caused a tad of a fps hit and made my Virtual Mem useage go to over 1 GB, things did look better though. Maybe I can improve on this once my new ram sticks arrive but for now I am going to give 5.5 a go. I saw an earlyer post that TBM should be set to 350, what exactly is this setting? I saw no change from the default 40 it was on to the 350. Tomorrow I am going to try and figure out what some of these cfg settings apply too and mess with the numbers some more.

So far my first fsx prob happened today, 737-800 trip from San Diego to Ohare with Gunny04 in the Co-Pilot seat we were about half way when I decided to cycle through different views really quick and it froze up and made horrific sounds. It could be due to my new ram settings I have been testing lately though... more flights will tell. So far I have my FSX running well and my only prob is blurry textures/textures that don't load quick enough I think because of a large amount of textures put in VirtMem. The only real solution to this to me was more ram becasuse my 1 gig kit isint cutting it anymore anyway.

::)

EDIT: Wait a second, those are not the same drivers you aked me to post for someone else. I installed those other ones too and they did not do very much for me

These are different and NEW!

Thats what I thought you old coot

Make sure you flush out the duct on the video card too with compressed air.. or just blow that hot air of yours into it, which should do the trick       ;D

Yes, those drivers are new and are not the same ones I posted to you for someone else. They may or may not help since they are beta for any card other then the 8800 but from what I hear you are better off with them and get off the 9xxx drivers.

I lowered LOD radius back to 3.5 and that helped my blurries big time.

Err...of course there's no difference when you're zoomed out from the cockpit.

Try zoom 1.0, spot view and recompare.

*Bump*

Yep, LOD_Detail_Radius works. There's a visible difference in 4.5 and 7.5.
Initial loading takes a bit longer 'though, but my frames are still constant.

This one is a keeper.

(Side note: It gets reset to 4.5 upon changing anything in FSX's display options.)
