fire and rehire donald ;)

thanks for the passing along of tips to us.  looks like a good starting point.

*edit*
well I get good frames with your tips but it stutters still. its weird. itll lock at 18 like I tell it and once in a while it will dip to 15 for  a sec if i pan aggressively to dense scenery.
i guess what im trying to say is its not fluid at all in movement.

Opppppppss!!  My mistake

I ended up with TBM 140  AG @ 1650/1100 VERY DENSE slider but I am overclocked on the video card and system

If your getting stutters @ 160, drop TBM to 140 and retry.. try dropping it 40 till it smooths out. If you are still getting stutters @ 80 Try setting the Affinity Mask to 1 as see of that helps. I was on 1 but I am working with 3 now.

Im not finished testing either. It seems I will be doomed to this testing crap for a few weeks till I get it sorted out, or someone posts a really good tweak

just for kick n giggles I disabled just about everything so it looked almost like flight sim 5.1 actually that was better looking. and I still get the frickn micro stutters. of course its alot smoother but still. cmon, stutters with all settings lowered?? thats ridiculous. I lost all hope with fsx.

Rebuild FSX from the ground up and this time utilize texture loading better. dont build for tomorrows hardware and that only.  this will make you loose customer support in the future.

FSX...thumbs down.

ya 1 processor and stutters go away but then come the blurries and the scratch on your head as to why you own a dual core in the first place.

is that the only settings your using atm?? what about fiber frame and preload and bufferpools and texture max load and the list goes on and on lol

the main thing here is this sim is so buggy its almost like a beta to me.

trying to watch a replay is a joke speeds up slows down speeds up I mean did they test this sim for real or were they feeling abit like mozart and the way he wrote his symphonys straight from his head onto paper lol

Nick,
If you're following this on your boat; I have done everything you ever suggested, beginning with tweaking the OS.
You're right, one damn near has to be a graphics engineer to make this work, plus have a lot of time to kill.
By following your suggestions, I'm getting very close.

This is my hardware: Intel 840EE overclocked to 3.5GHz, 2GB RAM, and one 8800GTX

I found that the affinity mask to 3 was helpful, evidently SP1 was having a little difficulty with the HT part of the processor.
I'm still fussing with the TBM although 120 seems to be working. You suggested 140 but that wasn't a multiple of 40, so I skipped it when dropping from 160.

Your suggestion on AA and AF settings on the VC really helped me.

Not sure what this means but I do most of my flying in MegaScenery photo scenery,

That does it

After spending days getting this trimmed out I had a great flight in a Lear but when I started to descend into KSEA it was socked in overcast and the sim started stuttering like a bucking bronco and frames dropped out. I had to drop TBM to 120 and that got rid of most of the stutters and frames came back up but I am sick and tired to setting up this piece of $*%! just to have to reset something when a mouse farts to the left instead of the right.

I can have high AG with blurred ground or fairly sharp ground and so-so AG and it always changes depending on the direction of the clouds.

Miltestpilot: Amen and amen.  I am going to experiment again with RTM and texture hacks, and trees, and see if I can do better.  SP1 gives wonderful performance over rural areas and mountains, and absolutely dies in complex areas such as Seattle.  I still challenge anyone to fly out of Boeing Field smooothly, smooothly, I repeat, with multiple oos without having to dumb down the brilliant scenery that has been designed.  I have told Phil Taylor, that we all know that there is a brilliant New York, Chacago, Seattle, London etc etc in the sim, for all of us it is hidden in the sim - it is just impossible to fly over these brilliant representations without confronting a stuttering horror slide show.

I would not do any hacks. I am up to my ears with hacks giving me more grief that the software in the past

I dont have any stutter problems at Boeing field or KSEA as long as I have autogen and TBM set right. What I dont like is the reduced autogen I have to set in order to get the ground textures sharp and even when I set autogen high and say screw the blurs, the autogen is so sparce out around me it takes away from the sim. The pop in and out just totally blows the show too

You know something? I went back and looked at my FS9 screenshots and there is something else that now REALLY PISSES ME OFF

I can see just how much of a CARTOON this POS software looks like. My FS9 looked REAL and this looks like a reject from cartoon factory

I dropped TBM to 80 and raised AG to 2000/1600 and dropped the tex res back to 1m

Seems to run smooth now in the real worl wether overcast we had here in Seattle today and the ground sharpening is acceptable (somewhat)

That was in a jet, now I will see how bad it looks in a bushwhacker

I noticed the lower settings for autogen look fine when you are traveling 250+ @ 5000ft+ but low it looks like a gremlin puked up a colored hairball in some places. I am really starting to question the scale of the trees and houses too although I did notice with texture res set to 7cm the scale of AG looked much better in line with the altitude.

I was looking forward to some hardware upgrades to make the sim work better but have pretty much nixed that idea.

I have always been a big supporter of MS software but FSX is really wearing thin.

With the current cost of high end hardware I can't even imagine what the goodies to run FSX correctly will cost if/when it comes out.

Other than spend a bunch of money on upgrades I would like to see MS come out with a dedicated Console for FSX. Spent $6-$800 and hook it to your big screen TV and fly. Maybe an FSX-360????

microsoft please ignore last post. you already have enough money from us. now make some use of it!
(to the last poster, Im only kidding no offense)

seriously disassemble this whole P.O.S. what you call a "flight simulator" and build it for todays hardware. forget about directx 10. I already know your gonna just fowl that up anyway. stop holding the cheese in front of us and making us salivate.

Remember all of those rumors about MS pulling the plug on the flight sim franchise awhile back.  If they keep up the good work, theyll have all the reason they need to justify dropping it, but theyll say it was from lack of interest in the sim.  Todd   >:(

Ok this seems to be the FSWX tweak thread and its not like fs9 where there was a few posts with some good tweaks to try and sifting through all the rants, and replys is a tad hard to find the tweaks so maybe we can start a dedicated tweak thread where people only post cfg tweaks? That way ppl that are lookin to squeeze a tad more out of their sim can more easily find em? Cant we learn to live with the fact that our 3 yr old machine can't run the latest and the greatest at its greatest someday soon?  ;D
