Gimme another one.... :D

Just found out that SP1 has a seperate installer for both deluxe and standard in the .exe. So half of the download was for nothing...lol..

Wouldn't it funny to find out the installer is messed up and installing the update backwards, in the wrong version of the sims

Oh, wait a sec.

Check out "C:\Documents and Settings\[Yourlogonname]\Local Settings\Temp\FlightSimPatchSetup.log"

Only a reader like Notepad2 will open it correctly, but this lists every file that gets replaced in the patching process.

It's a bit overload 'though, but might reveal some nice info... 8-)

- Edit: The fun starts at line 13280.

I dump all that temp file stuff after I finish an install and before I defrag

I probably would not know what I would be looking at anyway   :D

Oh great, FSX turned into a drinking contest. ;D

Black ZR-1, could you give me your numbers?

The only settings I have in my config line are:

TBM - 160
Wideview - True
Affinity Mask - 3

For my sliders they are everything max except:

Autogen: Dense
Mesh res: 19m
Texture res: 1m
Water: High 1.x
Airline traffic: 50%
General aviation traffic: 10%
Land & sea: 20%
Ships & ferries: 40%
Leisure boats: 40%

My sim flys very well and smooth. No stutters and hardly any blurries. I don't know what's up with yours, fellas :(

The forums are screwy again and I am going to post a copy/past fast one here

I got the skinny on what is going on. What it comes down to is the dual core thread code is very primitive and pretty much based on Intel telling them what to do but they did not have the resources or the ability to program for every version of every core produced. That means FSX is having problems identifying and working with all the different stepping processors out there and if you are on AMD, good luck because they got in bed with Intel on this one. AMD stutters best bet is to set affinity to 1.

I want to make something clear. The tests I ran that show dual and single core display the same performance was done using a 3rd party utility to ensure core 1 was never used. Setting affinity in the FSX.cfg file does not mean both cores are not being used. It depends on the processor and its stepping code as to how much of core 1 will be utilized. That is why you must experiment to see what works best.

It was a slam job and that

The engines are warming up and I am getting ready to cast off for much needed vacation. I will check in from time to time and if I get any hot info I will pass it on.

Have fun, Nick!

I replaced my autogen.bgl and roof.bgl (Scenery\World) with the one from the RTM version. If my eyes don't fool me, I got the old autogen "ring" back. Sweet!

Modifying .dlls with old ones does not work, FSX will refuse to start.

Quick question???? Which config (.cfg) file are you changing these settings in? I can't seem to find it.

As I've said on another thread, I finally have a computer setup that the graphics can be maxed out on and would like to tweak some of these settings around to get rid of or reduce the blurries and help to utilize my dual core setup a little more efficiently. But what file are these settings in?

This is from the PTaylor blog. I have a hard time believing they want us to configure settings for different terrain environments. This would be a little awkward on a crosscountry flight.

John there is not much I can tell you other than you are going to have to experiment.

I did get a list of things to try from a developer but it may be a while before I get a chance to play with it. She did mention that if you restrict autogen you can raise TBM which makes sense.

Try this:

Move the current FSX.cfg to a safe place

Boot FSX and set up the sliders as such

Go to the config file and add ONLY the following:

[Display]
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=160 //Note: The email I got from the developer seems to reflect what Black ZR1 found in his system (higher TBM) but I was also told for slower systems and not to see major stutters the autogen would need to be limited in order to balance that out. You may find a value of 80-160 works best and I was told to use multiples of 40, so 40-60-80-120-140-160 when testing. You may see view pan stutters if TBM is too high. You should have a 512MB card to exceed 80 but if you restrict AG numbers it may be possible to go higher.

WideViewAspect=True //Note: Set to true for wide screen flat panel displays

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=3 //Note: I was told with or
