It may already have been mentioned but there is a new FSUIPC for FSXv2 numbered 4.10.  It is designed for SP1 and replaces the previous version-which will not work with the SP.  The unregistered version is available on Pete Dowson's site, and the registered version through SimMarket.  Pete is a champ.

That should only happen during the game if you have insufficient System RAM....

The game should be running from your RAM, not spooling from your Hard Drive...;)...!

If your HDD light comes on during the "Stutter" period, that is a sure sign than you do not have enough RAM installed, and the HDD is having to load-in the Data, which will pause the game.... :'(...!

Always do a "Full" installation.

Paul... 8-)...!

.....Thinks... ::)...What am I doing here, in the Dreaded FSX Forum again?... :o... :o... :o...?

Yeah but could it also be because he computer is trying to load the texture of the sky scraper into the memory but the harddisk is slow causing a stutter?

Your Textures, etc, should already be in your Fast System RAM after you have loaded up your particular Flight/Area....

..not spooling from your slow Hard Drive... :'(...!

Paul...Your Hard drive light should only come on when you first load up the Scene, after that you
should be accessing your System RAM/Graphics RAM only..!

My Hard Drive serves no purpose whatsoever during my Flights...everything runs from my System Ram...;)..!

Paul....(2.23 Gb System RAM in FS 2004)...;)...!

Yeah...

I have plenty of RAM so it must just be the video card.

Could the problem be VRAM?  FSX only allocates 2gig for paging file, regardless of how much space you have available.  For those with XP there is a work around that allows 3gig to be allocated, but there is a bug in Vista that doesn't allow the fix so those with Vista  are still stuck with 2gig until a patch turns up.

I have answered that question enough

assuming you mean defrag with the right software and the right type of defrag, yes

if you mean the Windows defragger or other software, results may be limited

And Paul, even with 4 gigs your memory can not possibly load every bgl, texture, and other files fromthe drive to encompass a complete 60-120 mile area, also as you fly from one sector to the next the system loads from disk to memory, so the statement that once you boot the sim the HDD is no longer needed or used is not accurate. The system relies very much on loading as you fly. If the system is properly defragged and set up the loads are hardly seen. Those who do not take care of their systems and HDD layouts see disk related load stutters all the time.

Wowzers...!

I must have my FS 2004 set up very nicely then.... :)...!

I have a Desktop computer case sitting directly in front of me and since installing more memory (from 760 Meg to 2.23 Gb) I can't recall ever seeing my HDD light flicker on, with all my settings at Max, during my daily flights around Sunny California...... 8-)...!

Previously, with only 760 Mb or RAM installed, my system often froze whilst loading another load of Data from my HDD during flight..... :'(...!
...not any more...no more "stutters".... :)...!

Paul....FS 2004.... 8-)...!

I've crept into FSX territory again...Bugger!....:-[...!
LOL...!

If you have a good block of memory installed and stay in one area, and its not a really big city or an area with complicated scenery/changes, you are correct that HDD activity will be limited.. but fly into a big city or fly a good distance away and you will see HDD loads take place, especially when you change external views.

If you take care of your system and also do not run the sliders and settings way above what the system can handle you will probably not notice the loads.

Most people try to squeeze too much out of the software and they will notice every little change that takes place. That is magnified if a HDD is fragmented.

FS9 is no where near as demanding as FSX, even with SP1

Wtf.

With Sp1 now the ground textures blur when flying at only 250knots after about 10 seconds. I got FTTF to .99, framelock at 10 and TBM at 400 and it STILL did it.  ::) God I give up............

Sheesh, hadn't read this thread much before I posted.  Apparently I am the only one that isn't having some kind of problem.  :-[
Pretty ironic. Didn't tweak much before hand. Didn't do a Defrag before patching. Didn't use a clean install...etc etc.
Lucked out again I did, because I havn't had any problems. Zero.
I hope you all get this stuff sorted out soon. I feel bad for posting of my good luck earlier :-/
Good luck people, it works great when you have it working right. I promise. ;)
