Hi all

I keep reading about SP1 needing a clean install and I can understand about removing FSInn etc but I have two questions:-

1. Do I need to remove FSUIPC4 before installing SP1?

2. Do I need to restore those texture files we all replaced when we first noticed frame rate probs. You know, those lower resolution replacements that boosted performance a little?

Thanks - sorry to be a dufus!

1856/928 is indeed the spot. If I go 50/25 higher I see a drop. I can run both 75 and 100% AG slider but 75% "Very Dense" is a touch smoother with little loss to the AG. I really wish they had not ducked with the scenery ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well

You will be interested in these results!

@ 1740/870 and the slider set to very dense, my frames dropped and my stutter was back. If I raise the slider to 100% with those numbers the frame rate went back up and the stutter was gone.

To give you an idea about the frame rate change, when it's low and jittery I sit on 34L at KSEA facing the busy airport and Seattle bouncing between 9 and 11 and the takeoff is noticeably choppy even in a small plane like the Maul. When its right I can be in the 747 in the same situation with the frame sitting between 12 and 15 and absolutely smooth. Once I am in the air it pretty much stays at 18 with minor drops here and there to 14-15 until I get past Boeing Field and all that car traffic below. Outside any decent size city the frame lock can be raised to 24, no problem, and it stays there. It runs the same at 18 and 24 visually so I just leave it at 18 to cover the bases going in and out of areas.

Anisotropic... now there is an interesting change. In the past I noticed no difference using that or using the card for AF but now I see a distinct advantage when passing over heavy highway traffic and Boeing filed area to the tune of at least a frame or 2. In FSX with the sliders as high as I run them a single gained frame appears to represent quite a bit.

If I back off the scenery complexity to 50% I can easily lock 24 but then I loose all the airport goodies and many of the large city buildings. 18 runs Soooooooooooooooooo smooth and the 747 flights are the best they have ever been so 18 works for me until I get my new system this summer.

It seems to me there is a AG load value my system likes and it can be influenced by the numbers or the slider. As long as I remain above a certain AG, I am smooth. Now I am wondering if you can recalculate that to a lower slider and see if it may allow a higher frame lock or other increase elsewhere.

I am also running the airport vehicles at 'medium'. In the past that would drop my system at a busy airport but works just fine now.

Ok, that means I am probably close in my thought as to what they did. I have to install the update and run my own tests to confirm what you are seeing. The trick here is to figure out what value(s) to change in my original formula for the load factor to slider as compared to the new poly count from FS9 to FSX.

I dont know if what you are seeing is a fluke or if it is holding what I suspect is true. Bjorn said raising his by a defined % also fixed quite a bit and since the FFTF seems wants to remain constant @ or around .33 it may be easier to deal with getting it trimmed in now. Since we dont have to play with FFTF anymore its more a matter of finding the AG and frame lock with a base set sliders in play.

I guess since MS made the decision for you about autogen and how you will see it, there is no reason for you to push numbers your system has no business running

Worked excellent for me....15-25 very smooth FPS over Seattle with all sliders to the right, except for traffic...I like it.  ;D

I'm still working on my settings. I've been having a hard time ironing the blurries along with microstutters & pauses. Seems like my old FSX.CFG file is junk..

The sliders should remain the same. What I question now is the FFTF, TBM, AG numbers and matching slider value

I think you should work with .33 or slightly less on the FFTF and with the card you run, 320-400 on the TBM

As for AG.. that's where the trick is here. I have a feeling they moved the scale around and because of that its going to require a complete rework in that area.

As a test, set the above as I suggested and the following:

AG trees:4200
Buildings:2100

Slider: Work it between Normal, Dense and Very Dense

I have a formula stewing around in my head and I may post another set of numbers to try a bit later

You may want to try to raise the frame lock a tad (2) or even play with turning off AF on the card (application preference) and set to Anso in the sim

Zero Time:  I thought your shots were great.  It's a bit OT but how do you find the Maschette as an add-on.  I'm looking for a good fast single when I get to my gaming rig which at the moment is a thousand clicks and three days away I can test SP1 and report to NickN and others.  Nick should I revert to the trees/building ratio you first set (its in the FSX and SLI thread)?

Im downloading it as we speak.

A) should I stop using my computer and let it download?

B) Should I remove all add-ons?

Looks like Microsoft has kept its promise this time around. My loading time has improved [not much, but it's enough to keep me sane], frames have stabalized most of the way, almost no stuttering when panning around in multiple views. All this was achieved with just medium settings with only a DX8-based computer [which I plan to upgrade using Ctjoyce's advice].

Overall, I'm impressed; and judging by the posts I read around here, it seems that one nail has been pried off from FSX's coffin for the first time. I hope that's the first of many nails to be pulled out soon enough. A considerable amount of time has passed since FSX was released. ;)

Nick, does a higher frame lock mean a higher FTTF AND a higher TBM to keeep blurries away Or would it just be FTTF? I ask because I'd like to raise my lock from 15 to 17 as blurries seem to be controlled only by TBM...?
