I got it installed

here's proof of dual core use!!

Image

The 747 never flew so smooth but I am also seeing the same thing as lacrossefan. A defined boost in performance but now I get these strange micro-stutters. I have not toyed with the driver settings like Threaded Optimization. It almost looks like the type of stutter i use to get in games before I applied the dual core hoxfix and patches for Windows XP.

I think I see where this mystery stutter may be coming in. Very observant of you to notice it is similar to the old dual core performance reduction the hotfix and AMD optimizer fixed in the past.

PT posted some tweaks for the config file and one he listed seems to fall in line with your stutter issue and the fact that BOTH cores appear to be pinned to the max in the task manager snag you posted.

Dual Core:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=3

add that and see if the strange stutters go away.

I stay away from FPS quotes.. there are just too many variables. My settings are just on the low side of medium.. except for traffic which is all on zero. I was enjoying FSX under those limitations.. but still, when I flew the larger planes into scenery dense airports, I'd get some stutters... ESPECIALLY when banked and/or turning. Not any more  :)

I know you're very FSX experienced, Alrot, but maybe that v-card was already at it's limit ? Maybe these fixes are up in the performance area beyond what that card and your settings can realize ? Nick will probably know...

Trust me.. there's a HUGE improvement...

I'm having trouble getting SP1 to install.  Although the download occasionally stalls (heavy use, I imagine) I have sucessfully downloaded the instilation program.  When I try to run the install program, however, I get the "not a valid Win32 application" error.  I do have a 32 bit machine, but I thought the application was able to determine the system and to load accordingly.

I've googled the error and most think the cause is a faulty download or a corrupt file.  I have followed their suggestions and deleted the application, empty the recycle bin, run Registry Mechanic, and then downloaded a new copy, but I still get the error.

Any suggestions?

HA!

That makes sense. Check the harbor and the lake and see if 35% on water craft still displays a good amount of moving boats or is it down to 1 or 2 now

I'm going to say it only here and only this time and this post of mine will be as aseptic as possible.

In a moment of hopeless hope decided to install the SP. Ended up with having to uninstall the simulator whole.

After the installation of the so desired (by others my point of view was tainted by past experiences that a lot of other people seem to forget so easily) service pack FSX refused to start anymore. Not a reason, not a warning, not a nothing. No matter how many times I tried to start it and wait of it to appear, even after having rebooted, it remained looking at me with disdain in its fat folder, refusing to start.

I'll have to reinstall it soon, FSX, or my preteen nephew will begin stampeding all over FS9. But of course no SP will follow. No loss of money for new extra powerful hardware either anytime soon will see its way out of my account, only to better what is ultimately a toy for my nephew. There's really no reason, I can wait until FS11.

HAwwwwwm BRETT I was soooooo wrong , I decide to uninstall and reinstall /activate Wow 40 FMPS    What a dference ,what a graphics

I know.. I know  :)   I'm actually excited. I've been upping my settings a little at a time.. even adding traffic... I can't wait until I upgrade my hardware...

On that note (and remaining aseptic  ;)  )  My Athlon3700/7800GT machine could be built today for less than $500 and it's running FSX just fine. Since nobody could say that $1200  is a lot for brand new gaming computer (and there's no doubt a $1200 computer would yield stunning results), there's no argument that it takes outrageous hardware to run FSX...  Remember back when FS9 came out ? I built an Athlon3000/ATI9800-256 computer to run it well.. to the tune of nearly $1800. By the time I get around to building my FSX computer, it'll probably cost near that.

Nothing ever changes  ;)

Nick, those 40% seem to work for me now...

At the moment, I'm running:

456 (Seems TBM has lost much of its effect)
0.29
4
4480
2240

(All +/- 40%)

Doing fine so far, but I guess there's still room for upping.

Hi Ashaman,

The recommandations for installing the SP1 correctly is to have a 100% clean FSX (addons like plane or sceneries are not conerned, only the textures packs, or anything like this that would replace any original FSX files). For doing that, there are two options:
- repair your install (no reactivation needed :) ), delete your FSX.cfg, launch FSX just once to generate a new FSX.cfg (please anybody correct me if I'm wrong)
- deinstall + deleting the FSX files in the "Documents and settings" (where the FSX.cfg was, like for FS9), then reinstall (new activation needed :( ).
Maybe this will help, if you still have some time to loose.
