can't pivot in harriers

Postby Pappy44 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 7:46 am

I thought the harriers would pivot if the rudder was used...mine don't...is there a trick that I am unaware of to make them pivot?

Not as far as I'm aware of.  I can't even find a good harrier jet out there!  Lucky you for getting one.
Try using the joystick and rudder at the same time, or having some throttle applied.

Hmmm... Auto-Rudder may be causing something to go screwey here. If you have it enabled then go to 'Realism Settings' in the Aircrafts tab when flying and disable it.... Dunno it may work....  :)

I don't see how a harrier can do it if it has no speed whatsoever. A helicopter can because it has a rotor giving it the ability, but the harrier needs wind force on that rudder to pivot. Right or wrong?

tried auto rudder on and off...no luck...

the notes on the planes say the rudder is what pivots it, but they don't do it...

in real life, harriers do pivot...i have seen many at an air show do just that...has to do with the thrust vectoring somehow, but i am not sure how...

anyone else?

The real Harrier is fitted with puffer jets for directional control while in hover mode. This cannot be accurately simulated in FS. There is no default VTOL flight model so it would have to be based on either a helicopter or a conventional fixed wing aircraft.

they're actually called 'bleeders' because they 'bleed' thrust from the engine, and shoot it off elseware around the aircraft.  this is the harrier's main source of pivotting when in a hover (then again, i dont know of any secondary source of pivotting...).
