a321 AP question

Postby Pappy44 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:32 am

After finally figuring out that if I press the buttons on the AP for heading, speed, and ALT, that would set them, there was one last button that confused me.  There is an ILS button on the A321 AP section.  When pressed, it looked like it brough up a section on the main display that had a vert and horizontal line.  I assume this is for ILS landings, correct?  Like it is just a guide to help you land?  Isn't that what the flight director is for though?

IN real life you make the localizer and glideslope scales visible on the PFD by pressing the ILS button (and subsequently tunes the FMGCp rogrammed runway's ILS)

Since they serve no purpose other than approach and landing, it's unnecessary to have the scales visible during the flight  :)

The fd is more to show you what speed/altitude etc it would use during flight in ap mode.

here is another question...I have found this on another plane, but I thought it might be a broken add on plane.  Went to set the ILS settings on the Nav1 radio and only the numbers to the right of the decimal would change.  I finally got the numbers set in on the Nav2, but I wasn't sure how to set the Nav2 to be the signal the ILS/AP was looking for.  Two questions.

1.  Is there two dials on some radios...one for the numbers on the right, one for the ones on the left of the decimal, or is this just a bug?
2.  Is there a way to make the nav2 setting the active setting, vice Nav1 for the ILS to search on?

I am at work, and didn't get a chance to look in the learning manual last night, and a guy at work and I are talking about this at work and can't figure it out.

Thanks!
