Fortuanly the GPU has a thermal protection ,and it lock the system when its too hot ..

Hello Alrot
I use a AGP card as well but the one I have has its own small fans on it. I had to put a 450 watt power supply for the video card I now use as it need a free power dongle. Like the ones you normally use for your hard drives.I found it is better to have a video card that uses power directly from the power supply rather than from the mother board. Of coarse you still have to watch the heat as they will run hot. I downloaded a motherboard monitor that will warn me if it any part of my system gets to hot. 8-)

Good to know that you solved your problem, Alex!

As I told you I suspected, it had something to do with heat. Well, now I better go and chck the heatsink of my card too, not just the cpu

Very informative and useful post indeed Arlot...so glad you got your problem sorted out! I've never trusted graphic cards that don't have fans nor will I use one...especially with software like FSX. I've helped solve a lot of folks graphic problems by having them upgrade to a card with a fan or by putting a fan on the heat sink. Some folks still don't realize how critical cooling is for a PC. Heck, I even got improvement by using hard drive cooling fans and yet people still ask me why I would want to spend 10 dollars to cool my hard drive! Anyway, glad you're able to FSX again!

Regards,
Nigel

I'm Glad to be use full,

Something More:In the case your CPU is over heating, Make sure also that the heatsink grease is not vulcanize and dry , I found out that my own CPU become a hard vulcanize material too ,and it wasn't making the correct cooling , so my computer was crashing when it reached 65

Hi
I posted a inquiry hear several days ago rgarding about FSX and FX9 becoming very slow, freezing and the computer shutting down after  my LAPTOP was on for about 20 min. After reading this warning, is this the problem I am having?  Laptops graphic cards, if I am correct, do not have fans. Could I  be hurting my computer, should I stop even trying to use FSX again.  Am I ok with FS9
 Any other suggestions.
    Thanks   Barry

Alrot, thats far too much thermal compound, the heat will go up, not down with that.  Needs to be a watery thin film over the whole area.  Too much can be worse than too little.

Not for those CPUs. My company uses them in all the systems produced. He didn't use too much at all. (Though it is very correct that too much being used can cause overheating)
